Jealousy is so ugly.
I'm jell af. That's why I pointed out the only people I ever see driving them. Jealous McGee, that's me.

But no. I'm really not. As I've made clear countless times, I despise new cars. I also despise the cockwombles that I described who rag them at stupid speeds in built up areas. If that's "ugly jealousy", then oh well.

Sounds more like casual racism to me to be honest.

What is it about new cars that you despise?

And you drive a Focus st and a Subaru. Cars that others might say are driven by cockwombles in their part of the country.

What would be impressive?

A Ford Escort Cosworth weighs 1275kg

A Nissan Sunny GTiR weighs 1225kg

A Peugeot 306 gti6 weights 1212kg

And they were from 20-30 yrs ago

1300kg from a road going hatch with 300bhp is very impressive.
Crash in one of the above at a reasonable pace and you'd wished you had the modern car I'd expect

Also Car Magazine and Evo both have the Escort Cosworth weighing 1418kg
I'd expect the 1275kg weight you have is from a dry driverless car

https://www.evo.co.uk/ford/focus-rs/14157/ford-foc...
https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/ford/esc...
Found the Sunny at 1270kg weighed. Also they are down significantly on power and torque, to oem standards that means everything in the drivetrain and chassis must be stronger and thus heavier. No, the Renault is very light, especially since its one, one and a half even, size larger than mentioned cars.

Even when not considering safety, for the same equipment, power and size, older cars are usually heavier by some margin... even more so if they would have anywhere near similar (passive) safety levels

Good point. Without looking, I bet this Megane is more comparable in size to a Primera GT than a Sunny.

Edit after looking.

P11 Primera, 4481mm x 1747mm x 1372mm.

Mégane IV, 4359mm x 1814mm x 1447 mm.

eek Not impressive? Bloody ignorance more like.

All cars were new once. Did you hate them all at one time? Do you hate them to a certain age and then they're ok, or you despise new cars as a concept because they're expensive, in which case do you actually despise expensive cars? Or do you despise them because modern cars are (in your view) worse than old ones?

I'm thoroughly interested in the rationale behind that statement.

It is. I have no issues with A45 or RS3 drivers and don't recognise those arbitrary stereotypes. Quoting McRae is cringe worthy considering the events that lead to his death and those he killed in the process.
I'm slightly confused - he died in (and was blamed for) a helicopter crash, rather than in a car?

I think he is saying, man who made a very bad decision and caused his and others deaths is therefore by association, a for his entire life and everything good is automatically cancelled out.

Colin was a tool on the day he and other met his death, however I don't buy he is the social pariah as a result that some like to bang on about.

Well, he's not been back since. Presumably he has been too busy conducting a one man protest outside a new car dealership that caters for ethnic minorities.

I like that fact that the exhaust has gone back to exiting from within the diffuser. It's a detail that I really liked on Clio 197 missed when it was altered for the 200.

We also forget to compare old versus new, with regards to suspension, brakes, and wheel/tyre sizes, not to mention additional parts essential for modern compliance.

Any of the above are fantastic cars, however will have cooked their brakes and overheated their tyres mid-way around their first flying lap of the ring, if driven as hard as the Megane can take for lap after lap.

You'd also have finished your brew waiting for them to finish even if they did make it round unscathed.

What a mad car, whats the betting these chassis improvements, and the removal of 4ws will come on the facelift of the regular car?

A couple of ISOfix points and I 'might' be able to convince the missus this is the perfect family hatch...

It's a very cool car and let's be honest, they'll sell about five of them in the UK but that's not the point. The whole purpose of the last Megane .R was to be the fasted FWD car round the 'ring and it was.

Despite there only being a handful of them sold, there was less car for a higher price yet it was faster and very highly regarded.

Setting a benchmark is what the .R Meganes are all about and it puts RenaultSport back in the forefront.

Presumably the cross beam just hasn't been integrated into the chassis as well as it would need to be structurally to allow the harnesses to be fixed to it? Would it not have been the obvious choice to position them otherwise?
