I drove a C4 Corvette for 3 years as a daily and two Camaros as dailies for 4 years, one manual. It depends on how you use it and where you go. Only issue I had was the Severn Bridge tolls and they've gone now.

Still used to go to the right side and had to pretend to look for something in the glovebox...
Everyone who’s switched between RHD and LHD cars has done that, probably several times if we’re honest! smile

Trouble is that I've started doing it with my RHD car but I think that's because the weather makes it feel like I'm on holiday.

It's when you've got in, shut the door and then wondered "where's the steering wheel?" that you really start to worry...

Why? Would always be dreadful. Combined with awful parts supply for the conversion bits and probably difficult to insure. Or at least more costly.

Probably someone in Australia does, there’s a good cottage industry there of RHD conversions.

I am fairly certain that the Hardtop and Z06 were offered simultaneously. Agree that the Targa is the better looker though.
So the regular C5 has the large rear glass hatch or fastback. With a targa top. These were rated at 345hp or there abouts depending on exact year. 6 speed manual or 4 speed auto.

Launched for 1997 MY.

As Lu5ifer says. In 99 they offered the notch back body known as the Fixed Roof Coupe or FRC. Same spec as the regular coupe but base model and stripped and slightly lighter. This became the z06 the following year. The z06 has many unique parts including the higher revving Ls6 motor. The z06 was only available with the 6 speed manual.
Happy to concede I was wrong here. I remember the Hardtop, but they weren’t built for export and there was no U.K. interest either. I don’t remember them selling well in the US either as I don’t think the price difference was significant enough.

I remember my C5’s well enough. Can even tell you the first one in the U.K. was Fairway Green. Felt a world apart when it arrived after the C4.....

Lovely. If it were me I'd refit the original taillights and put some silver wheels on. It's already a bright yellow Corvette and almost certainly makes a noise like the God of Thunder revving up his special chainsaw. For me, it doesn't need any attention-grabbing aftermarket bits on top of that.

Perfect apart from those minor visual niggles, though.

Indeed you do! driving

C5 was my first Vette and a C7 is on the driveway now. Great cars.

Would be interested to see your thoughts in the "mid-engine C8 spied testing" thread. I hear one's been spotted in camouflage in UK. Launch next week!

A big thumbs up from me!

Maybe not risky enough for me though (I have a 15 year old 997 so like to live life on the edge)

I have a ‘15 C7Z06/07. Servicing is stupid cheap, and insurance hasn’t been a problem. Biggest prob with LHD is if you have a nervous passenger: at 78” across the back, even with both near side wheels in or near the gutter, on a B-road they can feel they’re sitting on the white line. Yes, its not for shrinking violets, but my Interceptor gets as much attention in traffic or when stopped.

I don’t have a 630 any more. Need to update the profile.

We have a BMW 535i, Mustang GT and Panda 4x4. All are everyday cars. Which is my point. For use every day, lhd over here (or rhd over “there”) is a complete pain in the arse for an every day car
Maybe it depends what your every day use is. What exactly would be an “arse” for you?

I don’t drive my LHD car daily. But that’s because I can’t afford to fuel it for the week day commuting mileage I do. Not because it is LHD.
Here we go..........

Do the people writing these articles have a clue what they are writing about?

Can't help but feel the influence of the 'new' owners of PH here....Lets drive people to the classifieds and make some money, which is all fine.

However, I don't think this car needs much of a brave pill

Is there an EGR to go wrong? No
Modern complex injectors? No
Modern Turbos and associated electronics? Nope

The LS-1 can trace its routes all the way back to the 50s and 60s (I think). There is someone on here who has a Vette that has done north of 200k without major incident.

I recon 10 year old 320d will be more at risk of producing a bigger bill than a Corvette of that area. OK, consumables will be more, but its probably running on 19s and even a Ford Mondeo runs 19s now.

This whole article just screams that the writers isn't really that sure what he is writing about and the comments on here also back up what I am saying.

you say that - he's not wrong though. The main thing stopping me using my Camaro as a daily is the fuel followed by not wanting to park in the multistorey ( I could get n OAP grabber thing soLHD's a non-issue and get it dented by fkwits who can't park)

That's me! Although I had to report engine issues in late spring redface , but entirely self inflicted due to trackday and sprinting use, all sorted now though. cool I've had bigger issues with cars at 50k miles, so I can forgive my Vette, it's a tough old thing. smile

The downside for me was the tractor quality gearchange to the rear transaxle,
That was the dealbreaker for me too when I looked at a standard C5 ten years ago - great looks, easy torque, nice driving position with a very cool HUD, but the engine note was strangely uninspiring (easily fixed), the gearchange was ridiculous and the lack of any bulkhead between the seats and the boot (OK, there was a small fabric curtain) felt a cheap-step too far...

...and given the width of the car, being a left-hooker was a little off-putting...
