Where? I said I’d love to do them but said tyres are too expensive, 220 each plus insurance, tuition, fuel and everything else adds up. Nothing wrong with that!

Seeing as I’m not allowed to use the ring time as a reference to prove my car is faster than a Golf R, I’ll post a link instead

And the A45 and RS3 were faster again....

There was naff all in it between the R and the CTR on the 1/4 mile....

I'm also not sure why you would post a video where your car comes joint last! hehe

Surely if you are trying to prove how awesome your car is...you would post a video where it wins for me.

Yeah, but he's got that flag thing that he keeps posting. That proves he is a winner in life.

Is it that important to you?

You might lap faster in a Golf, that’d be awful

It's quite funny actually as in another thread you said you were going to start track days. Have you downgraded to beer? Doing the Ring is a holiday BTW, and if it isn't, it's not incompatible.
How close do you think you would have come from the time on that flag on your first attempt?
Where?
In this thread.

Civic Type R has a higher top speed than both cars in question, more power and a Nurburgring ring time of 7.43. It’s also cheaper with more kit standard and 3 real exhausts, all of which are functional and a wing providing downforce wink
It would be interesting to know how fast you've been with it and what ring lap time you got with all that downforce.
Haven’t done either, I’ve got a few track days in mind

My brother has a Golf R. On his second now. While it's not really my cup of tea it does tick more or less every box for your average Joe family man very very well. Kids to school, off to work, bit of fun on the way home. I can see why they have been so successful and appeal so much and do enjoy the odd chance I get for a drive (especially as the current one has been apr'd!!).

I think the A35 could do well. Become more of an S3 alternative. Be interesting to see where VW go with next Golf R. Is the mk8 not fairly imminent?

I'm not sure the same buyer as these cars seriously considers a Type R. Yeah, the honda is quick (but not as quick as a renault) on a smooth track on a dry day. But it rains a lot in the uk and roads are crap. On days like this surely the 4wd car with active dampers is just going to disappear off down the road with little or no fuss. Not trying to upset Mr Type R here as I did get a drive in an FK8 recently, on a dry day, and it was great. I mean really great. And they do hold their price well. Horses for courses I guess.

That’s the thing I ain’t trying to prove anything ! Just winding a few of the guys up here who say the lap time means nothing so shared a video of the Type R beating the Golf R twice despite the lack of AWD

You’re right, when the stars are aligned a fast fwd car will be as fast (if not faster) than a 4wd equivalent and likely give you more interaction.

In reality that probably happens less than 5% of the time, I can get wheelspin in the dry in the meat of 3rd gear if I hit a bump in the road, the amount of speed you lose is surprising as TC reigns everything in.

On the road in this country I’d bet the auto 4wd cars will be quicker a good 95% of the time, even if not as fully interactive.

Struggling to understand how that’s funny.
Perhaps you should stop posting about Civics until you do?

Surely now a Megane has gone quicker, Civic man is going to have to immediately sell his car? It's not the king of hot hatches now it seems.

It has been really good banter to be fair! thumbup

I'm a big fan of the Civic for sure smile but the obsession some have regards ring times(for any car) has always baffled me and I just don't get it.

What's a tepid hatch then?
I'd guess that would be my Suzuki Swift Sport, although I prefer to call it a proper old school hot hatch with none of this Turbo nonsense.

Nobody cares. On the road, the ring time means SFA. Perhaps you should stop trying to justify your choices and start actually enjoying them?

And the weather in the UK is generally st. Real world conditions, wet roads. The civic wouldn’t know which way the R went

I think it would. Traction is only a small factor on the open road as traffic, line of sight and licence preservation are probably the limiting factors. 4wd doesn't add any lateral grip. I find the weather in the UK is quite temperate.

Even if it didn’t, who actually presses on when it’s raining? I stick to the speed limits and drive slowly when it’s raining, braking distance doubles and everything becomes more dangerous!

Yeah I guess that's for the best in a fwd civic on anything but dry roads...

Excellent to hear that lessons were learned after the 4 series.

So the speed limits are only there for when it's raining and you consider that driving slowly? What's your driving like the rest of the time then? smile

Same as yours bub, I’ve got a clean licence. Time and place for everything. To me, if the roads are wet, it’s no time to press on, that’s in a FWD or AWD.
