I wonder how many actually came to the UK then. Any idea anyone?

This is a real shame. We all knew a hot Up would have been a hit, and it was. Whatever the reason it can't be sales related.

Just over 2000 I think. Since I ordered mine in February last year I think I've seen about five, all 5-door cars.

I've a 5dr, new in March. It is a hoot. Now at 2500 miles most of which was a Highlands fortnight.
These days no more than warm performance but that is in no way a criticism.
Cheap, small, light, responsive.
upowners forum is fairly lively and helpful with a GTI specific thread.

As others have suggested if you want a new Up! it's n/a, electric or nowt.
There are still some dealer stocks of new cars and a moderate amount of 2nd hand ones.

Next Up! will be electric only.

£14k always seemed a bit expensive to me, especially when the citigo was supposed to be almost as fun, but without the badges.

Personally I'd go for a Mazda2, which seemed to fare well in a PH test and will be around for a lot longer due to the engineering.

The biggest problem for the Citigo/Mii is that they never got the TSI engines, so at best you're limited to a 73bhp N/A engine with just 95Nm of torque. In comparison the GTI has 113bhp and 200Nm. A Citigo is £11k, and that is before you add some tasty bits to make it look nice. They're not really comparable to be honest.

I was just going off a magazine review, who suggested the standard Up was almost as fun but much cheaper.

I considered a Monte Carlo a while back and you could get one for less than £10k with discount. £4k seemed a lot then for 40bhp and the badge.

The Monte Carlo is a nice car, but it's only available with a 59bhp engine. It's fun and cheap to run, but it really is dreadfully slow. Looks nice though, and Skoda had the right idea fitting 16" wheels to it.

O/T I had a poverty spec Mazda 2 as a courtesy car a few weeks ago and it was the worst car I've ever driven. It was impossible to touch the brakes without doing an emergency stop, the steering had no feel whatsoever and the engine was lifeless.
Interesting and completely at odds with the PH review.

Maybe you had the 90ps version.

Thanks all, sounds like I'm not the only one who thought they would still be available or who's gutted that they aren't 😭

read similar.

I think the next Up! will be an electric city car and I think SEAT will use the same platform. Interestingly I had heard that Skoda will effectively use the old Up! platform for their EV version and it would essentially be an eUP with double the battery capacity.

Shame about the GTi though. I quite fancied one, but it seems to have been on sale all of 5 minutes. I remember there was a waiting list for them as well!

I had to chuckle - I was driving through Warminster on Friday afternoon and pulled up at a set of traffic lights behind and Up GTI and got excited because I'd never seen one before, and then the next morning I went to see mum and saw her new one on her drive!

News is that the Up! GTI is back in production and available in the UK in first quarter of 2020, from a reliable source at VW

Please let this be true.... If things work out as I hope I'll be looking for a lease in Jan, currently thinking polo GTi or cooper s, but if the up comes back if take one of those. The original PCP deals were pretty good, hope those come back too.

If was me who originally posted this thread, changed username since though

I hope it does come back on sale. I've read quite a few articles this year saying it is getting harder and harder to build city cars to meet the demands of the EU and make a profit. It seems mad that politics, trying to be green, could kill one of the cleanest class of car there is......

I love a good city car me...

I expect demand is falling too, because small petrol cars now fall into the wrong VED band (e.g. Up! 59/74/89hp are all £130) so there's less incentive to buy one.
£130 pa tax is a drop in the ocean compared to the £10k+ purchase price.
Why would anyone worry over such a paltry amount spread over 12 months??

It's a universal truth of car buying that people are idiots and obsessed more by paying something to the government than they are losing 100x more to the great material River.
