Porsche developed a mostly new engine for the car which would have far more impact on their 'enormous profit margin' as you put it and people still think that the gearbox is held back primarily due to cost....?with the amount of moaning about the diff, and porsche's appetite for extracting cash from its customers for options, its a wonder they don't offer an 'upgraded' final drive which drops all the ratios by ~25% (thus 2nd is good for just over 60, like a normal car). Give it a 4 letter accronym (PSGD - porsche sensible gearing differential), charge £5k (despite using the exact same number of parts as a normal diff) and job's a goodun
Fantastic if you can get one, Round two indeed. I couldn't get a previous GT4 and was really excited to hear that there would be a enough cars according to Porsche. Made the man maths work and put in the call. Forget it, same story, this year's sold out, next year's all spoken for to customers with a good buying history. Tried 4 dealers, same story. There maybe a BTEC 6 cylendar coming out for all those who can't get one. Silver lining was a beautiful 2017 Carmine red Boxster S. Took it it out only to hear the engine/exhaust and find out what all the fuss is about. I previously had a six cylendar Boxster S which was great. But don't believe the hype, sounds great, modern, turbo laden, no sports exhaust. Very fast, great handling and ride. If keeping the Spyder numbers low was a ruse to shift some metal, I'm a happy sucker
