I quite like that pared-down, grey, almost rat-look 911. I get that, but I tend to agree with Slippy that 500+ hp plus (probably 400+ hp for that matter) needs wider rubber.

What do you get for your 1.8M ? Well for starters an engine that most likely costs £100k just to build (that’s without the tooling and development costs) I imagine Williams Engineering services don’t come cheap...

Carbon fibre panels the quality of which you probably won’t find this side of an F1, DTM or WRC car. Again, the tooling costs will have been eyewateringly expensive. IIRC only the roof or doors remain in steel.

Pretty much every component will be bespoke, that means prototype costs (no doubt lots of parts are subsequently redesigned and require further prototypes) and only when the final spec is agreed can tooling be manufactured.

Once you have the tooling, you knock on the door of a decent foundry and ask them to cast some cylinder heads. The first thing they’ll ask is what sort of volumes you’ll be wanting ... when you tell them 5 sets to start off with, they’ll either show you the door, or proceed to perform open wallet surgery on your finances.

Now do the same for the cam carriers, probably the crankcases, cam covers, camshafts, cylinder head scavenge pumps etc etc etc, and before you know it, the tooling costs are many hundreds of thousands of $.

Sure, you could build a very nice 964 for £100k, but with 560 N/A gee gees ? No chance.

Try building a sub-1000kg 964 and making it everyday drivable with a fully trimmed (and luxurious) cabin. Good luck with that BTW.

The car is an object lesson in what can be done with an aircooled 911, Singer should be applauded for pushing the envelope, just as others have done in other fields, because without such individuals, Concorde, landing a man on the moon or climbing the highest mountains wouldn’t have ever happened.
As someone with questionable personal hygiene standards, i'm clearly not equipped to fully understand the nuances and witchcraft which make this car so special...

However... Is the development and engineering of the first supersonic jet airliner and putting a man on the moon, really comparable to a tweaked and pimped porker?

As a Porsche enthusiast, I should dislike a company taking a 964 and changing it...however I've always admired Singer and the efforts they go to in their builds. Expensive yes but I had a good look round the cars they brought to Goodwood FoS this year and the standard of workmanship and attention to detail is awesome, and thats before I heard them go up the hillclimb. Their soundtrack and the way they hold the road look so impressive. Well done, I hope they produce many many more vehicles like this.

Spent the whole budget on door seals obviously.

I do wonder what problem that half mil solved!

Do find this car wildly exciting though. The damn engine is a work of fine art!

I think I'd have to drive it to be sure but I'm not sure improving the suspension improves the car. It is precisely the character of the way it dips and pitches and squats then lifts a front wheel that makes an early 'the drivers choice 911' for me.

..but with that said this is one of the most beautiful project in dream and execution that the automotive world has ever seen. A thing of passion and beauty.

One line in that article about not yet realising what they have created actually made me think of the 991 rev1. I believe this car is the coming together of many parts. More beautiful than any modern 911 before or after it (so far). It just looks right. Inside and out. Plus with it being the last mainstream model without turbocharging and maybe close to the last with an engine of any kind. I believe it may in 20 years be the next 993.

Love all their stuff - sooooo out of my price range though.

I thought their petrol (gas) cap was always in the bonnet (hood), but I guess not!
