Mid-engined Corvette to be named Stingray
Chevrolet is dramatically changing tack with the new Corvette - except when it comes to names
We're just over 48 hours from the debut of Chevrolet's highly-anticipated mid-engined Corvette, a car for which we finally have a proper name. It's a familiar one, too, with Chevy seemingly keeping its recently trademarked Zora moniker on the shelf - likely in reserve for a future, higher performance iteration - the marque has decided to stick with something tried and true: Stingray.
The name may be the same as the current C7, but the C8's logo has received almost as striking a redesign as the car itself. Gone is the previous rounded form, replaced by a sharper, more technical shape; the once anatomically accurate wings now taking the form of intakes which mirror those on the flanks of the mid-engined machine.
We also have what should be our final set of spy shots before the car is unveiled in California. They show Chevy's team of engineers and test drivers packing up their six prototype machines before departing the Nurburgring for the final time. This likely represents the last time that the car will be seen on European shores before the first production examples arrive next year - potentially with a view to setting an official Nordschleife lap time of their own.
Following Thursday's reveal, the C8 will be making its first public appearance in just under a fortnight's time at Michigan's Concours d'Elegance of America. After decades of anticipation, though, even twelve additional days have proven too much for some Corvette fans to wait, with a pair of tickets to this week's event selling online for over $15,000 ($12,000). We may not be there in person, but we'll be sure to bring you all of the details as soon as they're out.
Hopefully it'll push prices down on the fantastic C7!
go on then: play the role of Scrooge during this sort of motoring Christmas
For everybody else here, it might be fun to see two UK videos about the C6 Z06, each delightful in its own ways.

don't forget to add that the launch car will have the steering wheel "on the wrong side" (not the left side)
Actually... on Thursday at 7:30pm when the car is unveiled in Los Angeles, it will be 10:30am the following morning in Beijing. General Motors knows to whom they are now marketing.
