RE: Lotus unveils 2000hp, £2m Evija
Discussion
I think this is what they need to be doing, if you have to go electric go nuclear. Lotus and Williams, against Aston Martin and Cosworth for British engines ( aka PSU) in 2019.
All the specs seems next level, from the battery density to the weight etc etc. I also like :-
"can accept an 800kW charge to fully replenish their reserves in just nine minutes and have been designed to be easily replaced with future, more advanced alternatives."
Something your Tesla Model 3 should be able to do on the latter if Elon was really forward thinking ... talking of which, nice to see the originator or the modern electric car, the Lotus Tesla get back in the game . This is a rather different Lotus to when Dany Bahar was in charge which saw multiple models in parallel, now Lotus seem to be using this as a brand car before doing them sequentially.
Getting back to the Evija I think if it is 1680kg then it should still feel light on it's feet relatively with the low center of gravity. Batteries having low c of g can only slightly hide middle age spread, from what I have seen in EV sport car reviews, not eliminate it. We will see.
Of course the 2000hp might just mean it is so quick in a straight line handling becomes second fiddle. As it's the moon landing 50th this weekend, what better than this from another fast Lotus in a straight line. Those yanks do like pinching our chassis for electrical motors or big petrol ones ==>

PS can PH do a manual Lotus Evora GT410 v the new Porsche Cayman GT4, both seem fantastic cars for the driver at about £85k.

beautiful from the sides and front, looks like a dyson product from the rear
edit: also can't unsee a bucktooth stormtrooper on the rear
Agreed. Also needs a bit more flow behind the front wheels design wise on its sides. edit: also can't unsee a bucktooth stormtrooper on the rear

Really impressive if Lotus pulls this off. Hope it happens and trickles down into a new Elise generation.
I don't want to be one of those Lotus owners......but..
It's no doubt an incredible (if it gets built) marker of Lotus' intention, which should obviously be applauded - but can't help but feel it's a bit generic.
Apart from the weight It doesn't strike me as very Lotus. Yes weight is a core pillar of Lotus DNA but it's not all that the brand is about. I don't see a lot more of lotus dna in it than that.
I'm not crying out for it to still be powered by fossils - just seems a slightly missed opportunity given the technology, and the resource available.
I stopped watching the video half way through because I felt I'd seen it all before - which is a sad, if slightly unfair indictment on the car from my perspective.

Ah., the carfection video is up already: https://m.youtube.com/watch?fbclid=IwAR091Q0fgLr_4...
I'm a huge EV fan (as you may have noticed...) but i just can't see the point in another "telephone numbers" hypercar. if Lotus really want to re-write the rules (rather than just copy everyone else) then they need to develop an affordable EV sports car imo, not some rarefied, never to be used, owned by a tiny number of ultra-rich, nonsense car!
Cars like this are so far into the law of diminishing returns i just can't see what they bring to the party. I mean, a boggo P100D Tesla you can buy for about £100k (20 times less than this new car!) already gets to 60 in sub 3 seconds, so a tenth here or there is irrelevant imo, i mean, how are you going to use a car that can get to 185mph in 9 seconds? I've owned cars that take twice that long to get to 'just' 60 mph.
Then we get to nonsense like "800kW charging" and the renders showing a standard CCS connector. Er, guy, you might want to read the datasheet for that connector, even the water cooled version and see what it's rated too before getting too far down that particular avenue, even if such a thing as a 800kW Charger itself existed, which it also doesn't.........
So, i'm disappointed really. Missed opportunity imo.

What platform would they put it on that they currently have and make it not too expensive so get lots of sales? People would still buy Porsche because the interior is a lot nicer for day to day, you can only spend the money on certain things.
What's your suggestion instead, EV wise, for Lotus?

Marketing is a reality. these will be sold out, and we can all then move on to the real cars that will follow.

Have to say I’m slightly surprised that’s your conclusion, but fair enough. I would think that if it gets the engineers excited for a while, builds up experience/ capability, allows new ideas to be tried and tested, and 400M + aftersales in revenue, then that’s a good thing - no?Can always take that learnin’ downmarket into the muggles’ version?

Whilst I agree with you on your first paragraph, I see the point for a manufacturer to make a halo car to make a technological statement, especially when they venture into a new field for them. That being said, a P100D might be fast, but there are numerous complaints about it's steering feel, build quality vs price, not to mention it's 2+ tonnes of weight (oops, I just did).Cars like this are so far into the law of diminishing returns i just can't see what they bring to the party. However, would you rather Lotus build their "car for tomorrow" on "specifications for today"? Genuine question from me, as I honestly don't see the downside in future proofing their halo hypercar, who knows what charging technology will be available in the coming 5 years? Though it is almost written in stone that this car is destined for some ultra rich persons mancave, only to be parked next to the owners other limited edition acquisitions just to gather dust.
As probably many have said before: cheap/fast/quality, pick any combination of them but you can only have 2 at once. The day of the lightweight affordable EV sportscar isn't here yet IMO.

I cant help but see a Ferrari 488 crossed with a TVR Sagaris when I see the frontal shot.
And in what way is the interior ‘fully customisable’? Colour? Materials?
As far as I can see the seats are where the seats are, and the steering wheel is going to resolutely be on the left or right with no ability to swap sides mid-drive. Having said that, a steering wheel that you could chuck across to your terrified passenger would have a certain comedic value; “So, you think you could do better? Here, have a go then....”
