He said affordable. The Tesla Roadster cost a bloody fortune, and didn't handle that well due to the position of the battery pack and its tyres being optimised for economy.

But maybe a new version based on the Evora would be different to the original Tesla Roadster, which was based on the Elise. wink

In the early 90s I went to the Tomorrows World Show where they had an electric version of the not then released Elise. Surprised it’s taken them this long.

Well done. Lotus.

I am staggered by the number and variety of supercars now. Not the cheap supermarket Ferraris and Porsches mind you, but the multimillion dollar cars. Every new model makes me feel more and more impoverishedsmile Who is buying them?... ( certainly not myself or anyone I know personally)

Looks brilliant, but I honestly can't describe how boring the news of yet another 2000bhp EV Hypercar is. Is it the only way to generate headlines because making a lightweight fun to drive EV is still impossible?
This.

Opened web page, glanced at the pic, thought new Elise, dropped to title ..... sighed and moved on to something else :-(

I'm shocked, that's not a Lotus! £2m and they forgot to reuse the 23 yr old door mirrors from the Elise S1, S2 and S3. Back to the drawing board then.
Even older than that! They were from a Metro!

Really hope this revitalises Lotus as a manufacturer, just had to sell my s2 111s so dont think itll be in my budget for next car!

Moved on to something else? How did you post the above then?

Fantastic looking car, though UK needs better charging infrastructure.

Hope this comes to fruition and makes Lotus a ton of money. After the Esprit finished I kind of stopped following Lotus but this has made me sit up and take notice again. Lotto and Euro lottery will benefit from this launch surely?laugh

It's what so many of us are waiting for.....?

Is it 2000hp (title) or 2000kW (article)? The latter is nearer 2700bhp.

Beautiful car, but I'm perplexed why they are talking 0-60 times when 0-100 or 0-200mph or 1/4-mile would be far more appropriate metrics for such tyre-shredding power.

Complete waste of time

2 Million Quid and relevant to about 0.0000000000000000000000000001% of the Worlds population

How has this got anything to do with selling cars to everyday enthusiasts?

Yeah, cos technology never gets cheaper and never gets used in cheaper cars.

Absolutely nothing,

Please fell free to take your business plan to Group Lotus Plc (part of the mahoosive Geely group of companies, gorging on Chinese money), Potash Lane, Hethel, Norfolk NR14 8EZ.

(Trying) to set a benchmark, the price and the crazy power figures. And it kinda looks a bit like it. And it's British. Do you want anymore?

Sure, this "vanity" project should at least break even, and generate interest, but imo, Lotus could do better, as this car is a stepping stone to nowwhere in particular. Instead, they could have taken WAE's skateboard chassis, done their own body work, put in some production spec motors (say from GKN) and a production spec battery pack, and build a £30k "sports car" with say 250 hp, and fun handling, and actually invented a market segment that doesn't yet really exist (the Original Tesla Roadster was almost that car, but at the time, the cost of the batteries and motors pushed up it's price and relegated it to a niche interest at best.

And there it is. Good old PH never lets us down. Within minutes of Lotus launching a £2 million Hypercar, we have our first post demanding they build a new £30K 250bhp sports car. Welcome back to the 1990s!

Let’s just celebrate today’s announcement.
