Back in the early 80s, we were allocated batches of index plates at our motorcycle dealership.

A really attractive girl came in and bought a moped so I immediately allocated PUH 55Y to her new Honda Caren (We also had the full range of PUH 5*Y) Sadly, as it was a bike plate, it was on two lines so the joke was probably lost but it still made me laugh.

Probably long rusted away by now.
Car Check says it's live on a 1982 blue Honda- presumably the original bike!

Its a bit of plastic with some numbers and letters on it, it really isn't worth getting so upset over.

Its also not worth having to change your plans for the day because you refuse to get in the taxi because of its number plate.
The taxi driver has been let off lightly....hehe imagine having JS in the back rambling on for half an hour....rantinggrumpysleep

ONEIL on a FFRR, only here rather than next door due to the understandable mis-spacing.

A trip out to Brentwood in Essex yesterday where I saw most of these,

ESSEX J - White Audi A3 Convertible driven by some dude who looked a complete wrister. I don't know what the plate was exactly, but that's what it said (although it appeared to have too many S's in it) & how it was spaced.

MY 60ODY - Audi A6, whose MOT expired last October.

K17TY V - BMW 1 Series Convertible. M66TT N - BMW X3.

P L10YDY - Mercedes E Class Convertible. LE54HY S - Mercedes C Class. D11DA U - Mercedes CLS. F 4URE - Mercedes GL, which was normal on the front. OO 11ORD - Mercedes S Class.

M11RA F - Land Rover Discovery.

L F05KEW - Range Rover.

The issue with plates like this seems to be getting worse. I see multiple examples every day now.

People should be allowed one strike for misrepresenting their number plate. After that I think they should have it revoked by the DVLA. That would stop it!

The problem seems to be getting those two strikes. Maybe it should be driven from the MOT test - the failure category for "number plate mis-represented" could automatically trigger it.

I never knew that.

It’s a shame it couldn’t be picked up on ANPR.

With most of these chav plates that's exactly the reason WHY it can't be picked up by ANPR.

Fine for displaying illegal plates is up to £1000 according to GOV.UK.

A MOT fail is recorded on a government database before the car even leaves the test station. The capability to detect uninsured or vehicles lacking a current MOT already exists within ANPR and if that capability was linked to the national road CCTV network a automatically generated fine could be sent to the registered keeper whenever a vehicle lacking either insurance or a current MOT was seen in use anywhere or anytime on the road.

Very possibly there's the capability to add some programme to the CCTV network specifically to detect illegally displayed number plates as well and issue a automatic fine every time somebody gets nailed with one. Sounds like a plan to me as there's a fortune to be made out there... smile
