It was the use of the plate that was crap rather than the plate itself. This is my EGO TOY, look how fast it goes.

Indeed.C124P interpretation of a thread's intention by me
Entirely aside from the intended message making me wonder if I could get to the nearest wastepaper bin before my lunch made an unscheduled reappearance it's pretentious as it doesn't actually spell ego toy, it's only pretending to. .

Is it legal to have a plate spaced AA 12 ABC instead of AA12 ABC ?
I prefer to keep everything legal, but just wondered. I’ve seen a few spaced like the former above.
Yes the space would be illegal as it would not conform to BSAU standards and not stamped accordingly so an MOT failure.I prefer to keep everything legal, but just wondered. I’ve seen a few spaced like the former above.

Technically, no. I prefer to keep everything legal, but just wondered. I’ve seen a few spaced like the former above.

Clear as mud. I’ll leave them as they are.
Crystal clear. The only legal spacing for the current format is AB12 ABC. Anything else is illegal and will fail an MOT. The fact we all see a lot of plates mis-spaced to read A B12 ABC or AB 12ABC etc., doesn't make any of them any less illegal. Plod may or may not be bothered, provided they can physically read the digits. When people start mis-representing plates with strategically placed screwcaps or squashing digits together to give the illusion of a different digit, you're more likely to be pulled.
All still illegal though...
