So shoot me for putting the M at the wrong side of the 440. As above went exceedingly well but was rather fond of a drink. Much like me come to think of it. Apart from the going exceedingly well part. I think you may also notice that had I been claiming to have had an actual M car there would have been one less 4 and no 0. Jeez.....

Is there though? BMW seem to refuse to build non-SUV practical M Cars. Dont get me wrong, if there is, its going on the shopping list, but i'll only believe it when I see it

Does the M3 not fit that bill? It has 4 doors and 5 seats? Or are you looking for an estate?

Not really. Its very rare to find one that you can fold the rear seats down in (I think it was an option that almost no-one ticked). Even then the hatch on a GC or an estate is much more useful than a saloon trunk for loading large things.

Was admiring a current 4 series the other day. Very handsome car. I like the look of the new 3 too so I expect this will be lovely.

Earlier this year I chopped in my M440i after 2 years of very happy ownership. Plenty of performance, goon infotainment and I thought very stylish. My only complaint is that it didn't do to well on depreciation compared to similar Audi's I've had in the past but overall and in particular when you put it into sport + or as I like to call it turbo nutter mode it went like a stabbed rat. I'm sure the next version will be just as good if not better.
M440i?
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking him? Are you asking is he sure of the model he had? Or are you not sure an M440i exists? It does exist smile

I was agreeing with you iainrollo - so I assume your comment was meant to quote the person I was quoting, rather than me?

Re the whole ‘M440i’ situation, the 440i has a different state of tune than the M140i with less torque and less HP yet the 440i is available with a much louder exhaust and a power kit which boosts power unlike the M140i!

Why is this?

Yes indeed E65Ross, I'm not an expert on the multi quote thing. TBH it should be put in the same bag as the first inane comment that kicked the thread off.

Any way must dash off to the porker threads to find out just how poor the 981S is that I'm about to buy. wink

Come on everyone, let's calm down. We can all agree that BMWs have been censored awful since the E46 M3 and E39 M5....

Come on mate, where do people find this drivel! I’ve driven my brothers E39 523i manual a few times, M5 it is not but it’s very tiresome to drive unless there are clear roads and you’re cruising. The clutch is extremely heavy and the throttle is a joke, slightest dab lunges the car forward whatever gear you’re in. I can’t imagine it being easy or simple with a 5.0 V8 under the bonnet.

The E39 M5 is probably a fantastic car, in the right conditions, the rest of the time, I don’t think I’d be able to hack driving it. Give me an F10 535d any time of the week.

I had an E46 M3 - it was good at the time, in much the same way the M4 Comp I drive now is good for the current time.

Exactly! People say the steering is crap now and BMW aren’t the ultimate drivers car anymore, they actually are. You just need to compare them to the cars on sale today and not E39 M5’s and E46 M3’s.

Indeed I had an e46 m3 then 2 x e92 m3 and an F80 M3 all of them were good, people do talk a load of ill informed drivel on here at times.

So they're not the ultimate, just the least bad of the current mainstream crop? Damning with faint praise!

Looks like it'll have the same problem of the last one of looking more like a hatchback than a coupe because of the windowline and high boot.

Not as much as AMG.

Unless the story is right and they’re going to be fitting 4 pots rather than V8’s!
