Should be pointed out that currently there is no confirmation of any deaths and talk seems to be of injuries, some serious but no deaths.

The police turned up most weeks , they parked a marked car up along the road . This did stop the bad behaviour but as soon as it left it started up . A few weeks ago they were recording cars and making a note of the regs.
A few weeks ago there was a lady with a pram and baby and several toddlers in the central reservation with their parents (using that word in the weakest possible sense).
The “meet” has been shifted round the local car parks, this new venue is when the really bad driving started. Lots of people watching , lots of people showing off

Yes looks like no Deaths , it amazing how resilient the human body is , plus the great work of bystanders giving first aid and emergency’s services stopped this being a total bloodbath !
I wonder if the police here will get new powers to deal with this kind of event .

BBC are reporting 14 injuries, some serious (no st!) but no deaths. Hopefully it stays that way.

The BMW driver is not entirely innocent either... spinning the back tyres while coming out of that junction

What a brilliant world. Massive accident, people injured and strewn in all directions, everyone keeps on filming.
As distasteful as it is, maybe it's not a bad thing since then there is a record of what actually happened. Rather like dashcam footage in a way.
I don’t have an issue with the filming in the first instance, hell, even before camera phones you’d take a digital camera to events and film if you had one.

It’s the post impact bit that bothers me. Filming people’s reaction and screams taking priority over seeing if you can help someone.

To be fair this type of thing has been going on for years. I remember going to this type of thing in Basildon around 03/04 and it was still out of hand, i was genuinely surprised no one got hurt.

There was one older guy who used to go all the time, he told me he was a racing driver and pulled out of a junction sideways, lost control and went up the verge. He also 'put on a show' with another bloke in a volvo, both parked up and went to do a sort of reverse j turn at the same time, except they both went the same way.....smashed into each other which was very very funny.

I think the police did actually ban it in the end, im sure there's signs all over the place saying its an offence etc etc.

Agree with posters mentioning the lack of sense of those standing there. Tiny, pavement height central divide.
Yes I'm sure when it comes up in court that people were standing on a pavement of all places, it will be concluded that they only had themselves to blame.

I mean what kind of person would think it might be safe to stand on a pavement when cars are traveling up to 70mph in the road?

That’s horrific - what should be a car enthusiast event has seriously hurt 14 people (earlier posts indicate 2 dead and life changing injuries). Hopefully there is no deaths and everyone recovers in time.

No doubt this will bring down massive clampdowns by the police and local authorities. No one wants to see the same happening again

I don’t get the comments that people were blocking the Toyotas view. Well if you drive a car you don’t pull out blind you ensure you can see period.

The Nissan driver - if that road was. a 40mph it’s very clear he was travelling significantly faster than that through crowd lined road with 3 junctions (the one where the incident happened then the entry and exit of that petrol station).

The police have powers to disperse cruises, but it's hard to stop people showing off, as soon as plod gets called to another incident the phones come out and it starts. Standing in the middle of the road shows very poor decision making

the term "boy racer" still grips my sh*t........I doubt it was a 17, 18, 19 year old boy driving the blue car.

there were bystanders trapped under it lets hope they were quickly released. its one thing to be flung to one side but something else if the car goes over you and stops.

you might get a better view of what happened exactly if the footage was in Landscape rather than tunnel vision Portrait..

While I understand the point you are making, how many of these cretins know any first aid or CPR?

They'd probably do more harm than good.

I think that is an unfair assumption, to be honest. No-one is looking to sate any bloodlust from what I have read, so I'm not sure what made you think that. Most of us on here are car-fanatics/petrolheads, and I think it would be fair to say quite a few (myself included) have had a spirited drive now and then - I think in this case there is a simple desire to properly understand what actually happened truthfully, without making rash decisions and apportioning unwarranted blame.
The point being made is there is already a video that pauses before the impact with pedestrians but some want to see more.

If your concern is fault, the video pre impact is enough. Two clowns driving cars. One pulls out when he is not certain it is safe to do so, while a bigger idiot is speeding down a road where his visibility is likely hindered by people standing watching so can't see the junction that someone may exit from.

Thoughts with those injured/killed and the families. Hopefully there is a crackdown to stop such stupid actions being taken. Yes it may just be one idiot (or two depending on your take) in this incident but we know many others drive at speeds unsafe for roads and Lilley above their skill set to show off.

(Hoping the reports of no deaths is true)

There's no 'if', it is a 40 limit road. There's only one junction on that side of the dual carriageway, the entrance /exit from the small retail park (Wickes, The Range, a car wash & a recently added KFC) that the Toyota pulled out from. Other side of the dc again one junction, the entrance /exit to Stevenage FC's football ground.

Whatever the road layout though, crap driving all round.

Hope those injured aren't affected (physically at least) for the rest of their lives.

Ah paycocke road, before they put the speed bumps in that was one of the biggest congregations in the area. It too was policed but give it 10 minutes without sight of the boys in blue and you'd have people flying up and down at high speed just like this. I'm surprised I didn't see anyone get hurt other than the occasional moped rider
