it is a mid engined v8 sports car, rear wheel drive, with a removable roof, plenty of luggage space, a dual clutch, nearly 500bhp, under 60,000 USD..... and still people complain. Yesterday everyone was complaining that the auto industry is making pointless electric cars, and now they complain at this. Genuinely dont know what to say to those people - this is an incredible bargain.
Agreed. Aside from a lack of a manual this ticks many boxes. I went to Le Mans this year partly to say good bye to what I thought would be the last of the normally aspirated V8's, so this is a welcome surprise in the road car. GranCab said:

This shouldn't be a surprise, every car pretty much has an LCD screen, its not an Ipad and I doubt its glued there, you will really struggle going forward to buy cars that dont have a screen, I am not sure why it offends people so much ?cypriot said:

Also, can this be considered a modern NSX? not exactly lightweight, but mid-engined sports car for the masses? It will be interesting to see how it stacks up dynamically.
In side profile silhouette It actually reminds me of the new NSX. I’d love one of those but only having two dealers, both in London, puts me off completely. Also, can this be considered a modern NSX? not exactly lightweight, but mid-engined sports car for the masses? Love this new Vette.

I love this new c8 and already trying to find a way to pre-order for export, I'll be in the US in 3 weeks so will be having a chat with the local dealers. It's going head first into the 488/Huracan/570 market at a 1/4 of the price, absolutely crazy how much of a bargain this car is and they haven't even mentioned the Z06/ZR1 variants yet
I think you may be in for a rude awakening regarding the price. Was ever thus.
But it also means you can't make the "1/4 price" comparison with RHD market McLaren's and Lamborghini's. It would be disingenuous to do so.

I really like this. I've had a soft spot for Corvettes for years but with them only being LHD they've never really featured as an option over here for me. I'll watch with interest as to the pricing and reviews of the RHD cars coming here.
Same for me, will be keeping an eye on the UK release. I'll have mine in blue with white stripes please!je777 said:
It's an incredible bargain in the US. Same as a base Cayman. 300 bhp or 500 bhp? 4 or 8? Tough choice.
Further to this, surely the only reason to choose the Cayman would be the atrocious interior in the Corvette. Edited by je777 on Friday 19th July 08:07
That screen rivals Mercedes in the 'giant smartphone we glued to the dash' stakes.
Can people not bear to be parted from a screen even while driving?

Looks great inside and out and going by corvette tradition its performance will rival far more exotic competitors. All for under $60K (base model). But I have to say it seems to be in a bit of identity crisis, and the fact that it comes with a trunk located behind the engine raises doubt over its ability to manage heat. The last gen Z06 suffered overheating even with the engine at the front...

The base car is $60k before taxes, delivery and registration costs in the States.
Ford charges about £6-7k on top of the USA Mustang cost to export them over the Europe and sell them in the UK.
If we consider that, add about $7.5k onto the Corvette base price for the Z51 package, add in VAT, first years road tax, and registration fees you can estimate a UK OTR price of about £76k.
What would it be competing with in the £70k-£80k price bracket?

Really impressed with this new Stingray, I think it looks great, a little fussy at the back and maybe a little too NSX in side profile, but it still looks very much like a Corvette. fabulous and even with a little trans-Atlantic budget creep if it's still circa £75k OTR, it will be another nail in the fantasy TVR rebirth coffin IMHO.
