Do certain cars suit an age group?

When I told my wife that I really liked the Jaguar XF, she said I wasn't old enough...
Sure enough they all seemed to driven by senior citizens.
Now I've reached 65, she says I can have one.
I bought one recently. Highly recommended - esp: the 4x4 Race Sport. I'm not quite eligible for a bus pass Sure enough they all seemed to driven by senior citizens.

To a degree it's true, but not due to human nature I wouldn't say. Due to necessity.
As a youngster you'd obviously choose something fairly small and easy to drive, not too expensive to buy or insure etc..
If you're in your 30s likely with kids and family etc, an SUV would seem far more practical...
If all these factors were put aside and everyone just picked a car they like because they just do... I reckon the British roads would look very different...

Wow you've got quite the extensive garage! Nice!
Thanks. I've been around, and driving for a long time. I have just finished listing past drives back to 1967; not in perfect order of ownership, as I recalled some after posting more recent ones. I am reasonably certain that there are no more.
How are you enjoying V8 grunt?

It's the first car I've ever had that I will keep beyond two years, maybe three.I have just finished listing past drives back to 1967; not in perfect order of ownership, as I recalled some after posting more recent ones. I am reasonably certain that there are no more.

The grunt I rarely get to use in full. The AMG track day at Brooklands provided after I bought the C63 coupé is the closest I've been to really pushing the car.
It would take a lot to give up the sound of the 4.0l bi-turbo though. Even just the bass warble as you trundle at 30mph to the local shops is enough to vindicate V8 ownership costs.
But then you've run some beautiful V8s. And I spy a V12 in there too, now that must have made a fabulous sound.

Not sure about Jap cars being mainly driven by under 30s, it's not the 90s any more and the demographic for most Toyotas/Hondas is probably over 50. Mazda and Nissan probably a bit younger. Traditionally, Mercedes, Jaguars, Volvos and Maseratis were aimed at over 50s I think but the average age of Mercedes and Volvo buyers has probably reduced in recent years. That's not a slight on any of those brands, as I like all of them but I just decided earlier in life that I would put off potential ownership of them until later in life. Skoda, Hyundai, Kia and Peugeot/Citroen would probably be mostly over 50s too?
In terms of genres of car, I would say you're good in a hot hatch up to 50 but some of the more "mature" hatches such as the Golf GTI/R/BMW M135i/M140i, you should still be good past that too. I still aspire to own a Porsche and would really like to tick that ownership box in my 40s to avoid the cliched "meno-Porsche" jibes but if I can't afford one until I reach my 50s, then I'm not going to let that stop me from buying one.
As an Astra driving 20 year old, I lusted after an Alfa 156 but my girlfriend of the time told me that an Alfa was an old man's car, which as you can imagine I was a bit put out by. Especially as she suggested that I get an Escort or a Golf instead. Fortunately my wife likes Alfas.

What age group buys a V8?
In my case early 20s to late 60s.Most 2 seater cars don't seem to fit any age group - they are just as likely to appeal to someone in their 20s as to someone in their 70s (and any age in between)!
