I suppose to many people, they consider hot hatches a younger persons type of car and big comfortable cars to be for older people.

But as we know that's often not the way. My main car has been an E Class Merc for the last three years so since the age of 34, it's big, comfortable and perfect for the kind of driving I do in the main part (motorways!). Have had the odd comment where it's deemed a bit of an old man's car but I love covering ground in the thing.

Also though, I think seeing someone in their 50s/60s buying a hot hatch is cool as well, I mean why not. We all know that the likes of a Fiesta ST or similar are fun and just because someone isn't 25 doesn't mean they don't make the most of the car!

Drive what you want at whatever age you are is the standard response. I'm 45 and have an M135i. I admit that when I was in my mid 30's I thought I was too old for a hot hatch and drove more age appropriate family saloon cars. Now I'm older and a bit wiser, I no longer care although Mrs Toon hates my car and thinks it's too loud and boy racer looking for our middle class street biggrin

Mate at work who is mid 50's has only ever had hot hatches and currently drives a Fiesta ST. He said he got the most odd looks when he had his Corsa VXR. Grey haired old git driving slowly in a chav chariot was the way he described himself.

At 69 my current cars are a 2003 Audi A8 4.2, a 2005 Fiesta diesel and a 1963 Riley One-Point-Five. They each have clearly defined roles to play: the Audi for long distance motorway munching, the Fiesta for local pottering and the Riley for dicking about in.

I've never thought of any of them as 'defining my age', perhaps they do - what a confused old bugger I am. driving

All the comments from the miserable gits saying “who cares what people think...” are missing the point of the thread, it’s light hearted Christ....

I bet the same type of people that refuse to enjoy Wheeler Dealers because they don’t factor in the labour costs or takes their pint back to the bar because the head is too big...

To join in, I have a Z4 with cream interior and wood trim and I’ve had ‘middle aged divorced accountant’ pressed on me a lot. I’m 27 and not married let alone divorced.

When you give a toss what other people, the majority of whom you will never meet or know, think of your car you need to have a chat with yourself.
Isn’t chatting with yourself a sign of old age?

Just turned 65 and always wanted a Ferrari or Lambo type of car.

Now I can afford one I'm not sure that I would want one. Couldn't use it much and would be wary to park it up anywhere.

Still got my bike though for fun...

Nearly 57. Really fancy the latest Civic Type R. Or a fully stickered up WRC style blue Subaru Impreza WRX with gold wheels.

My wife has vetoed both of these.....looks like the Honda Jazz in inevitable. weeping

I find the older I get, the more my tastes change. I always wanted a Lotus Elise type car. Raw, fun and engaging with a manual box. A proper B road blast type of car. I decided against it last time out and bought my M lite as it was a good daily but fast and a bit more agile than the large barges out there.

The truth is now I'm older, I've come to appreciate auto boxes, luxury comforts and straight line pace as I'm rarely on a good country lane these days. In reality, I should be driving a larger luxury GT type of car. I'd look awful trying to get out of an Elise with my beer belly and ageing joints biggrin

I drove a Focus Saloon in a ghastly pale blue, ghia spec, when I was in my early 30s ... my parents wondered if I might want something 'more interesting'! I would definitely class this as a car too old for me... mainly being a) saloon b)a ghia c) having fake (I think) leather seats that you slid all over

Well Peugeot certainly got it wrong with their 1006, marketed at the cool young kids & then bought in their droves by the over 60's lol.

Avoid the latter by not doing the former.

Im 29 and on my second.......

First one was grandad grey with Chrome everywhere but the V6 noise made up for it.........

This one is diesel, in 'sport' spec and black and looks lovely just a shamed a bit the unfriend and not particularly economical diesel engine up front. If this car had a V6 petrol it would be perfect for my needs.

hehe

My colleagues described it as a "gammon-faced Brexiteer's car".

It's in Brexit-spec, too.
