Come one, does the whole of that V10 REALLY sit beyond the front axle? I find that very hard to believe.
Looking at the picture below I would say that it does.http://www.autoinform.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/201...

It probably went like this:'Do you really think we can get a V10 under there?'
'Yes I do and it will be awesome.'
‘We have Quattro’
‘Ok...’
As an owner, you're not buying this car for it's handling - you're buying this car because you want/need a normal sized family car that just happens to do 200+mph with the ability to run silly power figures yet won't spit you off the road if you look at the accelerator in a corner or in the damp etc and whose family will enjoy the added "safety" of an AWD system at that power level, unless you're already a race driver whose family love going sideways!
If you want a sportier AWD car and have a small/no family - get a GTR etc
If you want better handling and accept the risk of a far twitchier back-end - get a RWD BMW/Merc etc
If you want a "jack of all trades yet master of none" all-rounder which will happily take 750hp all day long (yes the engine and drivetrain can cope easily despite what some have said here) and a car which can use that power all day everyday without any RWD tyre smoking theatre/panic and are willing to accept "dead" steering feel but still have lots of grip even if lapping a track (been there, done that, my videos are on youtube) then the RS6 is a good choice if that interests you.
It may not the best choice for everyone nor the only choice as, being an "all-rounder", it does suffer in some places, but it's a pretty good choice regardless.

Well said. mine has only the stock 572bhp and I agree with all of that, simply a superb "all rounder" If you want a sportier AWD car and have a small/no family - get a GTR etc

This really does require a brave pill. Not to be 'that guy', but being a one trick pony, there is nothing realistically this can do that a tuned Golf R estate can't do. For the price you can get an R estate with 1/5 of the mileage, probably 1/5 of the running costs and 10 years newer too!

Not sure a Golf R estate has 570 BHP stock...
Ofcourse not, but this mapped C6 RS6 has a power to weight of roughly 360BHP/Tonne vs a tuned Golf R Estate of 320BHP/Tonne so the gap isn't as wide as initially expected. My point being that the argument for this RS6 is pretty poor if you want fast and practical. Especially as the Golf R actually has 40 more litres of boot space too. I know i'm missing the 'emotional' factor but in this case, the cost/reward ratio simply doesn't do it for me.
This cars is owned by a good friend of mine. it is indeed a very quick car and also a very pratical one at the same time, which is what the RS6's have always been very good at.
The fact you also don't see many on the road makes them all that more special and the fact is has a turbo charged lamborghini engine.. does make me think what it would sould like without the turbo's muffling the noise, maybe not as quick but would probably sound incredible.. or if they had shoe horned the naturally aspirated V12 in as an option instead.

It definitely does - with predictable consequences to handling....Edited by mstrbkr on Monday 22 July 13:33

Seeing that thing dangling out front would humongously turn me off as a potential buyer. But Audi seem to have a weird fondness for this arrangement. I wonder how much time and hassle they expended trying to get the Ur Quattro rally cars to handle because of the location of its engine.
