It definitely does - with predictable consequences to handling....
Seeing that thing dangling out front would humongously turn me off as a potential buyer.

But Audi seem to have a weird fondness for this arrangement. I wonder how much time and hassle they expended trying to get the Ur Quattro rally cars to handle because of the location of its engine.
Indeed, I am a 911 fan (same problem, other end) and the UR Quattro made me a petrolead (1981 Forrest of Dean, 6 years old) but that V10 hanging out the front like that in an already big car (isn’t there any space to be had behind) looks proper odd to me!

Aye clearly a few Internet numpties such as us are way more qualified in the art of car design/engine placement than the highly qualified engineers that Audi employed. I am no driving god but still not managed to stuff mine in a hedge/tree/ditch etc in 3 years of ownership, so guess they might have had a bit of an idea what they were doing. I could however be wrong and it was all decided in a bar on the back of a fag packet after a few too many..but the nominated driver remembered in the morning, and I have just been lucky thumbup

Ur quattro, all the S4/S6 V8, this one and even the new RS6 all have this engine location. And they all suffer from understeer to varying degrees.

A tranverse four saves space and is also relatively a lot lighter, sitting just in front. After that, ideally you want the block to sit somewhere between the axles. 911 is slightly different, it's like an airplane flying backwards, slightly different case...
