In my experience, any Porsche that's not a 911 being referred to as the "poor man's Porsche" are from one of the following:

People who have never driven a Porsche (and more often than not haven't driven anything vaguely interesting)
People who think that having seen Top Gear makes them a car enthusiast and knowledgeable on the topic
People who can't afford any Porsche
People who own 911s and can see no other way

I've a Cayman, my ex had 3 911s. I've driven a pile of Boxsters, Caymans and 911s. I could have any of the 3. I'm happy with the Cayman.

I could't care less how people perceive it. I bought it as it ticks my requirements for a fun car, none of which take image into consideration.

I kinda fancy a Noble M12 next - my friends who know nothing about cars generally think it looks terrible. This is making me want one more. smile

I've had a 996, 997, raced Boxsters and 924s, and theyre all very good. So there we are.

But lets get into this cheese on toast for breakfast thing. Thats odd, although I'm weirdly tempted to give it a go. Brown sauce with it?
Council AF.
Cheese on toast? Is it? Sounds quite luxurious to me
Cheese on toast with brown sauce? Definitely luxurious lol

The whole poor man's Porsche thing started with the 924, and it was kind of valid. The whole purpose of the 924 was to make the brand accessible to a different audience by making it less expensive, largely achieved through raiding the parts bin of VW and Audi.
I thought that Porsche designed the 924 for VW who rejected it and subsequently developed and marketed the Scirocco? Either way the sales of the 924 and later 944 probably helped Porsche survive the late 70s early 80s.

Is the correct answer.
Had it been taken up by VW then every dubber would be spaffing their load over them.

Jesus, are all Porsche owners this insecure?
Have you been to the Porsche forum recently? If it’s not bickering about which options are best it’s bickering about potential engine failures, running up the mileage or stitching colour.

Well, I love my Boxster 986, just bought for £4k. What anyone else thinks doesn't bother me.

Anyone who can spend 5-10 grand on a used, impractical fun car is pretty far from "poor".

You can't want a 911 that much. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/486602-car-s...

Plus, a Carrera 2 or 4 is not a poor mans 911 as it's a , er, 911. You could even say a carrera 2 is the thinking mans 911.

Enjoy your SUV. spin

Did that myself too. Bravo.

I quickly upgraded to a 987.2...which made a hell of a lot more sense than spending £10k more on a borescore-likely 997.1!

I enjoyed every mile but thought the 986 sounded and steered better.

I’ve been fortunate enough to own several Porsches over the last few years, including my current 911 turbo. I can honestly say that the car that was the most fun to drive and gave me the most smiles was a Boxster 987S. A fantastic car.

Make sure the cheese is slightly melted and some bruschetta as topping. F¥ckin’ delicious.

Nope! Encona hot pepper sauce. Or Dunn's River hot sauce. That's what the Doc ordered.

I've got a 911 & a Boxster. Both very good. Panamera is not bad either.

Anyhow the key point is cheese on toast is the best breakfast there is. But only with extra mature cheddar...... heaven.

True, but the basic is so much less pfaff.
