Anyone after that new 330D, just get a mint 335D X drive for £20K and get a Caterham for the track and occasional road fun.
335D has more power, 4wd, easily slips up to 350 bhp and as an owner i know everyone should own a Caterham once.
Only a few pages in and this seems the most sensible comment so far; a 'sensible' daily - one of the myriad of fast diesels that'll perform well and still manage 40+mpg and a Caterham or something daft for the weekend. As someone who's tried a few two car (plus bike) combos, there's no do-it-all one-car answer.

And I can't even imagine what the new Alpina prices will come in at, they're already bloody expensive.

As has been said, £51k for a 260bhp diesel 3 series just seems... mad. Absolutely mad. What will the 335d start at? £60k? laugh

Stuff like this just makes me more inclined to go and spend £5k on a cheap runabout and stick the finger up to all this nonsense.

Maybe I'm just poor. I don't know, but I'm starting to feel disillusioned with new car pricing.

Engine hasn’t moved on at all in performance or economy in a long time. I have a 330d from 2013 and it has the same stock stats. Stage 1 remap gets to 310+bhp v easily though.

It would if it was, but it isn't. It's £35k after discount. Still.

List price matters, as it’s what’s used to calculate company car tax. A combination of high list and high emissions means this won’t sell many and I’m surprised BMW have bothered with a RHD version.

The x30d engine is a technological dead end. Emissions are too high and performance is falling short of PHEV petrols.

BMW website will confirm that the list price is nowhere near £50k and either a broker like Coast to Coast or a friendly dealer will sell it to you for around £35k.

So the Pistonheads article is wrong? It quotes the price as £51,605?

No doubt brokers will offer a discount, but a discount of £16,605 / over 32% on a new model? I can't see it personally.

You don't need a broker, TRL @ Berry BMW for example, will help.

As suspected, you've nothing to back up where your figures have come from.

So the price for the car in the article is indeed £51,605 (until somebody can prove otherwise?). Will a broker or TRL offer a 32% discount? I can't see it, personally.

i really don't think BMW's official website will confirm any such thing.

A good all-rounder sensible daily, but nothing that evokes the soul, especially when spending north of £50k!

Prices really have gone mad on cars over the past decade or so.

I think the car in the article is a ‘normal’ 330d M Sport with the option packs fitted, which does indeed bring the price to circa £51k on the bmw website.

No chance that you’ll get this spec for £35k through a broker, maybe a base spec with no no options but not the car in the article.

That combo usually isnt on the company car list despite being a good suggestion.

You can buy a 20 year old AMG for £5k and have more power....what's your point? I don't think a new-ish AMG fares too well for those wanting to pay monthly bills, or have them as company cars.
a 20 year old amg looks old and won't drive as nice but a e63 amg still looks new, drives very well, has insane power and has a nice interior

as far as the fuel cost difference, the £25k saving will give you your first 75,000 miles @ 10mpg for free.

I’d be amazed if many choose this as a company car; it’ll be circa £600 a month as a higher rate payer. Diesel cars are now bloody expensive as company cars, especially those with an element of performance.

I also can’t see similar spec’d cars being flogged for £35k, at least not yet for a bloody long time. TRL has / had a 330 cancelled order and the discount offered was only £5k.

it's far cheaper to get a comparable age 330d and remap it than it is to get a 335d. Lots more of them around too.
