Pre production cars often get crushed as they're not type approved and only given temporary permission to be used on the road. The same happened to the fleet of MK4 MX5s Mazda used at the Goodwood FOS launch, all crushed. Including this one used by Mission Motorsport:

Furthermore, I don't think many people bought them new because when they came out they were about £5 over the tax threshold for company cars. So that dented the appeal as far as I know.

It won't say remap but somewhere in the press pack it'll say that they optimised the ECU to the Exhaust/Air Filters etc = remap.
