I remember a few years back when Stuart Pearce was nearly killed when he collided with a bin lorry and was lucky to survive. I remember being very surprised he was driving a rover 200.

He did claim it was his wife’s mind.
The 200 was a sponsor car from the local Rover dealer when he played for Newcastle I think. I remember clearly he had an M-reg BMW M3 from new when he was at Nottingham Forest.

And “a few years back” is in fact 21 years ago.

I was next to Anthony Head at the traffic lights in Bath, fair few years ago. At the time he was driving a Mercedes CLK (A209).

My mate's dad bought Sir Alf Ramseys Rover 216 from his widow when Sir Alf passed away.

He's in his late 80's now, not sure if he still has it bit it was traded in at Mayfieds of Ipswich where he (my mates Dad, not Sir Alf) worked as a delivery / valeter part time after he retired. Nice touch, especially as my friends family have a local football history going back many many years.

e.g As per the Jacob Rees Mogg thread, the Tory anachronism drives a vintage Bentley, which is perhaps unsurprising, but makes him a slightly less awful person I think.
Old, but not vintage. Did he claim that it was?
My mistake. It’s referred to as a ‘vintage Bentley’ in several newspaper articles, but you’re quite right it’s a 1936 car and therefore too recent to be accurately described as one (as I gather the cut off is 1930).

Rees Mogg himself, of course, can be classified as ‘veteran’ since he dates from the Victorian era and is therefore comfortably pre-1905.

Michael Owen's first car was a Rover 218 Coupe - good pick sir

“WHY A Rover coupé?”

“I was 17, and it was the Bobby Dazzler of its time,” replies Owen, deadpan.

He also goes on to say:

Was car ownership very competitive in the locker room? Was a player measured by the price and power of their car?

MO: With footballers, there’s a pecking order. If you’re driving a Porsche on your first day, you may be selling it the next. The unwritten rule is: you have to earn your stripes. I got into Liverpool at 17 and was playing for England at 18 but it wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I bought an expensive car. You see, when I was young, if you drove a flash car, the manager would give you a clip around the ear and tell you that you were losing focus.

Plenty of celebs went for Minis of various descriptions back in the '60s, from humble 850s to fully modified Radfords or Wood & Picketts...

George Harrison's Radford was initially black when he took delivery in February '66 but the following year he had it revamped in psychedelic mode after John Lennon had his Rolls Royce Phantom V done...

His bought this one for his wife Patti, this is the car (reg'd GGU 707C) that George, Patti, John Lennon and his wife Cynthia had their first LSD trip in on the way home from a dinner party...!

Lennon's Radford was all black including the wheels and bumpers, it's the only Beatles Mini which has so far not been found, one of several rumours is that it was it was stolen and then written off...

Macca's Radford (along with Lennon's) had Aston Martin rear lights...

George's car being modified at Radford's workshop in Hammersmith in January '66...

He had at least three other Minis including this one, seen with his white Aston DB5...

Lennon's Roller in his garage in Weybridge in 1966, the black Radford Mini lurks at the back...

Just after it was repainted by JP Fallon...

George's Radford in '67...

At Abbey Road in '68, he sold it to Eric Clapton that year but bought it back in the early '70s...

In the '90s he had it restored, some of the paint details were changed and it lost its original Hills number plates, wrought iron bumpers and Mk1 Cosmic wheels...

Ringo's Cooper S was modified by Hoopers of London with a hatchback conversion, originally he had it painted all over in Rolls Royce Regal Red but it's since been restored twice, deseamed and painted blue and silver then red and silver, last year Christian Horner bought it at auction and had it repainted back to red all over, he also recently bought Macca's green Radford...

Some more shots of Macca's car...

This one was taken on 8th August 1969, the day they posed for the cover shot of Abbey Road, it's also the same day that Charlie Manson's gang started their killing spree in California...

In '67 the Beatles acquired this Bentley S2 for their Apple Corps company and commissioned Binder, Vaughan 7 Edwards to give it a hippie makeover...

George Martin with his Triumph Herald which he lent to John Lennon to take his driving test in...

In '67 Lennon bought this Porsche 911, he crashed it a few weeks later, he was an awful driver...

Macca's Radford and DB6 outside his home in St.John's Wood...

As well as a MkX Jag and a Bentley S3, Brian Epstein had a Maserati Sebring...

More of Lennon's flowered up RR...

Ringo checks it out...

George being a massive petrolhead also had a Ferrari 275GTB...

Guiness family heir Tara Browne had a Lotus Elan which he crashed with fatal consequences in December '66, the newspaper headline the following day gave Lennon the inspiration to start writing 'A Day In The Life'...

In '68 Lennon bought another RR which he used almost daily and sometimes lent it to others (for a fee!), he loaned it to director Nick Roeg for a while when he was filming 'Performance'...

Didn't Wayne Rooney have a StreetKa?

The Chrysler Voyager used to be the usual choice for rich/famous people who needed an MPV either because of large families (Tony Blair) or access requirements (Stephen Hawking).

George Best had a Radford Mini for a while (plus a Lotus Europa, a couple of Silver Shadows and at least one E-Type)…

Mike Nesmith's Radford was said to be the most expensive one to date when he picked it up in '67...

Film producer Robert Boulting went to town on his...

Mick Jagger went to Wood & Pickett for his Mini Cooper requirements in '67, he turned up to court in it that Summer with Marianne Faithful...

In October '65 Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland arrived at Radford's showroom in Hammersmith to pick up Britt's birthday present...

Sellers pretty much started the fad for super-Minis a few years earlier when he commissioned Hoopers to build this one for him complete with hand painted wickerwork...

In '68 he bought another Mini for Britt, this time he went to Wood & Pickett to have them modify a Mk2 Cooper S, it was initially silver but she had it repainted black, sadly it was later stolen and wrecked by some local scrotes…

Jeff Banks and Sandy Shaw also had a W&P Mk2 Cooper S, with the Mercedes headlight conversion in vogue at the time and painted to match their Bentley...

Twiggy had a W&P Mini too, not a cooper but it was based on the standard Mk2 Mini 1000...

Actor Laurence Harvey was one of the first people to have W&P Mini, this is his '66 Mk1...

Later on he also had a Mk2 Cooper S done by W&P which has been restored recently although the reg' number is now different...
