There's probably lots of reasons not to get a Ferrari but I've never thought it was a lemming-like thing to do. Guess that makes me a lemming out of my own comfort zone
Ferrari 360 Spider is ace. Ultima GTR is ace. Chalk and cheese tho.
Loving that garage! Ferrari 360 Spider is ace. Ultima GTR is ace. Chalk and cheese tho.
Cracking effort - hats off to you sir

Yep seconded
No desire to own one after having tried one on a track
Maybe it was a tired example though
You do wonder if track cars are maintained a little cheaper on the quiet. After all, the running costs will be more than a road going car.No desire to own one after having tried one on a track

Speaking as another automated manual car owned, varying things can make them horrid. As an example, a decent engine service and a new clutch/DMF makes a huge world of difference to them, and that's after driving 3 of the same car, albeit differing (decent car, new DMF etc. but a tired car, and an original clutch/DMF car).

Sometimes I hate PH with the idiotic comments about how people do or don't like the latest supercars headlight surrounds etc. Electro1980 summed up the content of these posts nicely a page or two back. Some moderation would go a long way on this forum but saying no spam would reduce the post count heavily which is presumably no good for the advertising revenue or something. Ferrari 360 Spider is ace. Ultima GTR is ace. Chalk and cheese tho.
But then there aren't many places where you come across posters actually living the dream either. Many posts on this thread about people living with 360's and it's wonderful to here there experiences. Julian's little project sounds fantastic also. And then you get a post like this one in response to someone saying that's rather have an Ultima to the 360!!! Classic! The CTR also just went up magnitudes of coolness in being the (presumably?) daily driver of choice for someone with this kind of taste.
For me the 360 is a wonderful Ferrari, not much wrong with it at all. Close the perfection. Maybe a 430 would be better but it doesn't quite sound like a 360. According to the video games I've played (haha!) and what I've read in some reviews, the 360 does this curious but very endearing bobbing thing at the nose coming out of a bumper corner at speed too. Maybe a flaw, but definitely characterful also.
A properly tuned up 360 is quick enough for most occasions - the problem is there are loads out there that just aren't sorted properly. However once the engine and chassis has been dialled in they are a joy to drive. I had a client recently bring a 360 spider in for a money-no-object overhaul. We got it driving so well that he opted to take it on a European road trip instead of his 430 Scud.
The F1 box is slow compared to later generations but it can be tweaked to provide a fantastic kick in the back when changing gear. Not much can beat a 360 F1 with a factory racing exhaust running one of my lairy engine ECU tunes and a properly set up TCU.
If anyone is in the market for a 360 then please feel free to stop by my workshop. I usually have at least 10 in and would be happy to show how to spot a good vs a bad car.

In my eyes the 360 is the best looking series production ferrari. The 355 simply looks old and the 430 too angular and contrived, its whole aesthetic trying unsuccessfully to ape the brands halo car of the time (enzo). Its all personal choice but to me the 360 is beautiful and has aged better than the models before and after it.
I am currently torn between trading up to a new mclaren or keeping the exige and adding a manual 360 to the garage, the latter being the preferred choice atm.
I normally describe the 360 as being the last pretty Ferrari that Ferrari made, but you describe it much better than me. I am currently torn between trading up to a new mclaren or keeping the exige and adding a manual 360 to the garage, the latter being the preferred choice atm.
Good article. I own a 360 spider (manual) and a £700 banger as my daily! Love the car and smile every time I use it which is a first for me - I normally get bored very quickly. I took the decision to buy a high mileage one (over 60000 miles) which will shock most owners but firstly it kept the purchase price down and secondly I don't worry about depreciation every time I use it. Had it just over 6 months and put about 3000 miles on it already. After all, it is a car not a museum piece or a grand piece of art. For me, it was my first proper sports/supercar and HAD to be manual.

I like your style. When I get one it will be to use. My Lotus is my daily driver although I use my daughters 10 year old fiesta to go to the station. mmarksx19 said:

Sounds like a good plan and a great way to actually enjoy the car rather than it being in a collection. Personally, I like the 360; the interior looks loads better than the 355. I see quite a few about compared to others. I’d rather one of these than the 430.
I’ve had three manual 360’s and currently own a spider and a 430.
As long as you have your potential purchase checked by a specialist, I would recommend one. There will always be sellers trying to pass off a good one, that has not been properly maintained.
With regard to the exhaust note, as long as you have an after market exhaust fitted they both sound epic.

I have an F355. IMO it is one of the, if not THE, best looking cars ever made but, of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! The 360 is a better bet from the running cost side of things but will still be expensive. I always tell people that buying a Ferrari is one thing, running one is a completely different kettle of fish.
The 360 styling (and that of the 430) sits between the ‘artistic’ styles of previous cars and the more aggressive styles of later Ferraris. It is, to me, a neither nor car. However, they go well enough and fitted with a Tubi or Capristo sports exhaust sound ‘mega’. They are still pretty raw (but not as raw as the 355) and that is part of the charm of these cars, they excite in a way no other faster, more capable cars can. At full chat the wail of the flat plane crank V8 is spine tingling.
I think F355s sounds better too, especially with a Capristo exhaust. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qSK1i5NSFkThe 360 styling (and that of the 430) sits between the ‘artistic’ styles of previous cars and the more aggressive styles of later Ferraris. The 360 Challenge Stradale sounds good too, but you would probably be paying double the amount for one of those.

A mate has one with a tubi. When waiting for the ferry in Plymouth I could hear his car 10 minutes before he arrived in the ferry queue.
I have a Tubi fitted to the F355. When I take it in for servicing Mrs Garvin usually follows me to give me a lift back home. The first time she didn’t know where the Indy’s premises were and she got delayed behind me from traffic and was well out of sight. I did slow down but short of stopping and waiting on the hard shoulder of the dual carriageway for her to catch up there was not much I could do.I arrived at the Indy and she arrived some minutes later. I apologised for getting out of sight and hoped she hadn’t had too much trouble finding the Indy. Not a problem she said I could hear where you were all the way!
Also, I agree with the idea of thinking of a cost that it can't be more of then double it. That has been my experience on at least one occasion.
