I keep seeing it mentioned that this engine is becoming unavailable due to some kind of 'deal' with Ford expiring.

I was under the impression that the AJV8 and its iterations were a wholly Jaguar design?.
I would guess that it's a legacy from Jaguar being in Ford's PAG back in the day and that the tooling and manufacturing setup are all within the Ford Bridgend plant which is closing in 2020

Thanks for the update on your new SVR. 30 days to go and counting. The engine deal with Ford is up next September, this car will never be repeated. The new engine for the SVR is rumoured to be a BMW V6. JLR have the Jag/Ford engine in the Velar now for a 1 year special only.

Do BMW actually have a V6?

800 miles in now and the ride has settled down a lot (not that it was uncomfortable to start with), somehow I even managed to average 27mpg on a run down from the midlands to London last night, and I wasn't particularly hanging about!

No, JLR are using the 4.4 V8.

It feels grim that Jaguar are going to buy in V8s from BMW and Aston from AMG but in reality the investment in new IC is a bit short lived. I wonder if the German manufacturers will be designing such engines into the future?

Far better the money is going into electric.

ICE will still be around for a very long time. EVs are the solution to everything but rather the potential solution to some things. The consumer market doesn’t even want EVs and they only sell where there are tax incentives and punishments.

At the moment we are going through a period where loud people are shouting that everything will be an EV by this time next week andnother loud people are shouting that if everything isn’t an EV by next week the whole of humanity will be dead but cut through the army of ‘End is Nigh’ and the shimmering suited salesmen and the quiet reality is that ICE will make a comeback and the big manufacturers know this. The biggest ICE engines are almost certainly on the way out and so they are all doing deals to use each others because there is no long term profit in everyone designing big cc engines but small cc engines are still being invested in as they will be around for decades.

Yes it looks like the SVR will be replaced by BMW sourced V8 bi turbos from the current Ford sourced supercharged V8.
