So really by the time you've left the dealership your knocking on 90k for a base spec 992 with the colour, wheels and some essentially options.

Not that I'm in the market but like lotus things are getting more pricey at this end of the market.

Did I read it right that the base spec 911 is now .2 seconds quicker than the previous gen's Turbo model!?

The difference in usable performance on the road between the base spec and the top medals is so small, taking aside bragging rights and willy waving the more expensive models are much harder to justify for anyone looking at these objectively!

Or over 120K if you go mental with the options like I just did on the configurator. I expect that for some it will just be the choice between having a CarreraS with a relatively basic spec or having the Carrera (which will be sufficient for a lot of folks) and having an extra 10K to spend on options.

But still not big enough for ceramic brakes apparently, you have to option in 20/21's to select them.

It's all well and good saying the Carrera comes with smaller wheels but there isn't a single picture of them - which bar the smaller brakes in black are the biggest visual difference between it and the S, now there's no narrow body.
A wider body was never a visual difference between the Carrera and Carrera S, that was the difference between the 2 and the 4 regardless of the S.

There is a massive disconnect between the comments here (which I love) and the real world regarding manual gearboxes.

A manual 991 S or GTS is like rocking horse poo.

When I spec-ed a 991.2 GTS at OPC Reading with a manual the guy nearly fell off his seat and said I had reduced my resale market by 90%!

The configurator also shows the car as having square exhaust tips, unless you option the sports exhaust, so even the cars in the photos aren't basic spec.

I also had to read that twice but I guess it's 0,2 s faster than the old turbo motor. Not the Turbo model.

No. A 991.2 Turbo S would hit 60 in less than 3 seconds and 100 in around 6.

This is the harsh reality.

We, the genuine driving enthusiasts, are the few.

Ah that'll be why the wheels still look massive to me. And yet the car still looks quite bulbous and high.
Not a fan, i think 911 aesthetics peaked with the 991.

I sort of agree, but for me there are 3 peaks. 930 turbo, 993 and 991. 991 is best of the water cooled IMO, externally at least. I find all 911 interiors from 996 on a bit anodyne

I know and this reply will make people chortle, but to me, it is really killing the brand. Driving enthusiasts in Porsches are few and far between.
I would have hoped a brand like Porsche would protect a certain % of their cars to not go in for profits only.

The final thing that put me off of buying the GTS; I was excited to be part of the Porsche Club GB, but after going to an event I thought I had gone to an old age pensioners club.
Now there is no age-ism here, but what I thought would be a driving enthusiast's club turned out to be a 4WD, PDK, 4 wheel steering, traction control on at all times ... club.

It's sad to see Porsche's fantastic products whither on the vine like that.

Can't help but feel there should be a manual option, I'm guessing Porsche doesn't sell enough regular manuals to warrant the expense.

The "Brand" is going from strength to strength by offering cars that people want for the badge. The few cars they sell aimed at driving enthusiasts are good, but they are not whats makes the 21st century Porsche brand

It is clear some people here have an inferiority complex to need to always pretend to be proper "enthusiasts" by only singing the praises of Lotuses and Caterhams as hardcore track toys.

Reality is some cars can do more and Caterhams and Lotuses are not always very pleasant to drive but these fools have such a masochistic desire and need to prove their credentials on every car review thread. Idiots.

Ah yes... the hallmark of a mature conversation. Label anyone with an opinion different to your own as a fool and an idiot!

Well done! Have a great day.

I think that there is some frustration that quite a few people on a car forum overlook excellent drivers cars eg Lotus because they don't carry the Porsche badge. They also assume that a modern high spec Lotus is the same as the Elise of 20 plus years ago.

Many times over the years I have thought that this site needs to be renamed "Badgeheads"

I think when it comes to used 911s the ratio of pure driving enthusiast owners increases in relation to the age of the car. Porsche salesman generally only have experience of new and nearly new cars.
