Depends how long you are keeping the car.

Agree always spec it primarily for yourself but always have an eye on the general market. Some options are a no brainer that add value and saleability.

Others are a total waste of money and can actually detract from value and saleability.
My approach would be the same - do it for yourself... with this in mind (and not being one for wanting to fly under the radar in the usual black or silver...)

I think I'm in love...

I configured mine last night, now just need to make partner at work!!

I like that.

There are one or to things; folding mirrors, auto dipping mirrors; that you get on a £25K hatch that are optional but as you say the standard spec is good.

Those who think you need £15K of options have been listening to Porsche dealers too much; buy the car you want with the spec you want.

My logic is; if a spec works for you, there's going to be a market for it second hand.

I’m quite sure this is a highly capable car, the VW Golf of sports cars?

With the chassis and tech being so good these days, why would you need a C4? (From the owner of 2 C4S!)

The Golf GTI of sports cars almost certainly.

In the UK, personally don't see the need for the C4 or C4S.

4wd Carreras imo defeat the object of a purer 2wd 911.

Compromised steering, increased weight, more transmission noise and worse economy. More complex and expensive new too.

Ok for going skiing in though.

That’s it no benefit at all like more traction etc it’s just of you get one you’re not a proper driver again because it’s not pure.

I remember the pure, proper driver 911 experience.

Hard acceleration on a wet, straight road in a mid-eighties unadulterated 911 Carrera.

The arm full of opposite lock required for the unannounced rear end snap.

The triumphal rush of “I’m alive!” adrenalin as the horizon reverted to the straight ahead view.

Ah, the days of real enthusiasm.

hehe

It'll be a sad day when Porsche/Lotus/Alpine and others have to play BHP Top Trumps to remain desirable.
Yet Porsche are most definitely playing the 0-60 game with the ridiculous gearing in the Cayman.

I can't see the gold wheels on the red car in the configurator. Not that I was going to buy one but it's fun to play.

They are under wheel accessorises; satin aurum.

911's are used as daily drivers and it's nice to be able to use it in winter too, if you live somewhere that's affected by snow etc

An extra £800 to get your wheels painted gold, plus you can only do it on the 20/21 inch wheels. Who would pick that? I'd go local, get the 19/20s done for £45 a corner.

So you would invalidate your warranty, obtain an inferior unofficial paint job probably in the wrong colour thus devaluing the car and chances are the wheels would deteriorate quicker especially after winter use.

Just to save £600.

£800 excludes the £1100+ you need to pay for the wheels that you can paint gold - so its near a minimum of £2K.

Luckily I don't have £83k to spend on a new 911, because that's exactly what I might do.

As Porsche options go, that's not bad!! And if I'm going to be spending that sort of money on a new sports car why not?
