£72k is nuts and even £50k is stretching it, but those carbon wheels are amazing!

The sum of its additional parts may be fair, but while it may have made its point for Renault by taking the record, there cannot be any other point in it?
So ok, it's the fastest, most extreme hot hatch track car you can buy, with a big box of very expensive bits to let them poke honda in the eye.
But if you were looking for the fastest, most extreme 2 seater track car you can buy for £70k, I don't really see any circumstances that would bring you to the Renault other than the extremely limited build numbers. Which has nothing to do with it being a better car.

This is how stupid the nurburgring records for road cars has got. A £70k Mégane that Renault can't afford to sell as a production car.

fking hell, this used to be a place for petrolheads, now its a miserable sea of millenial fking complainers that are pleased by nothing.

A Factory Renault Hatchback with Carbon Wheel, Carbon Seats and virtually everything in the highest grade spec they can produce, including the millions of Eur in R&D, and all people focus on is the price. Who fking cares?

You aren't going to buy one, but I guarantee they'll be gone in minutes.

Fair fking play to Renault to building it. After all, when they bring out the next Megane RS all you'll hear from the whinging pricks on here is "I bet a Golf GTi is quicker round the Ring", "They should put carbon wheels on it", "Why can't you have Carbon seats in it" etc etc.

Can you imagine the response if they brought out the V6 or the Turbo 2 again? Its just depressing..........

I’m just going to say;
Danny Kaye, 1952, Hans chrostian Anderson ‘The Kings New Clothes’

Feel free to look up the lyrics for those of us who aren’t old enough, but the allusion is obvious to me
I think Renault is having a Jimmy Giraffe...

Really it's just history repeating itself, the Renault 5 turbo 1 was 30k usd new as was the 205 t16 , about the equivalent of 72k usd now.

Yes more exotic but people buy them and they now get big money.

I’m pretty confident that if I had a standard Trophy and a £15k budget I could get it as fast round the ring.
Obviously not with me driving but a decent experienced pilot.

You’re bang on there, yes it’s 70k but it’s only 4 secs quicker than the previous record holder. It’s not like it’s 15 seconds quicker and as quick as some interesting sports cars...even if it was, you wouldn’t have the advantage of rear seats!

It’s a PR stunt, a poorly executed one as the lap time will be beaten before the end of 2020.

Could you also get it to pass emissions? And safety tests? And could you put a warranty on it?

I don't doubt that it could be done using various aftermarket parts and tuning companies but it is not comparable.

The only thing better than this car is the keyboard bashing rage it induces in muppets who can’t comprehend a Renault costing more than their favourite German yawnbox, when they have never even bought a new car, and never will.

They will sell all 500, and at a loss. It’s a marketing exercise FFS.

Good job Renault, as always. But the decals suck, as always.

yes

Proper lol at those who can’t understand the price of a limited run halo model.

What a bunch of small money talk.... I bought myself a R26.R a few months ago and just went to Wales with it (combining the Silverstone Classics), it is brilliant! Sold the Maranello and the 997 Turbo (manual) and am very pleased about it. The Megane is sooooo much more fun, you just can't believe it if you haven't tried it (and the other fast cars I mentioned). The new Megane must be even more brilliant to drive and so much more satisfying then a A45 or some other rubbish pumped up mass vehicle (read: Audi, BMW, Mercedes). Most of the comments about the price can be seen as remarks from people that really don't have any experience.

If my numbers come up I’ll put my name down for one, in a few years time your be lucky to get anything remotely interesting let alone something you can actually drive rather than just point in a direction, bravo I say clap
shame nobody else has balls to build stuff like it
And that alone makes Renault a hero moniker in my eyes, there back catalogue of hot hatches
Is simply in another league compared to any other manufacturer
