RE: McLaren plots 720S Longtail for 2020

I have to say, every time I see a McLaren driving down the road, I struggle to tell what version it is. The 720S being the exception, as it does look different to the rest.
Putting aside F1, Senna, and P1, McLaren haven't really released many different platforms. They are mainly variations of the 12c and 570, which is why most people (including me) struggle to identify them from a distance (likewise with the 911). As you say, the 720S is an exception and looks different to the rest, if not anything else on the road.People tend to compare McLaren's business model with Ferrari (natural competitor), but I think it is more aligned with Porsche and the 911 - Design a winning formula of chassis, engine and shape, and stick with it, but refining it as time moves on. It’s what McLaren have done.
No doubt, the 765LT will be a car to be reckoned with.

I was about to say the same, but insert `Lotus` instead of Porsche.
McLaren are becoming a very "M'eh" manufacturer to me. Would have preferred them to follow Ferrari's strategy. A few different models, with one or two special editions.
To be a McLaren customer, must be like being a Lotus customer. You think you've just bought the ultimate, then next week a more ultimate ultimate car is released.
‘Meh’?McLaren are becoming a very "M'eh" manufacturer to me. Would have preferred them to follow Ferrari's strategy. A few different models, with one or two special editions.

I’m guessing you’ve not driven one on track.
Drive one in anger then see if ‘meh’ is your reaction.
Perhaps they will follow Ferrari’s strategy for different models in the future but I guess they are building a firm base first before over-stretching themselves.
It makes sound business sense so you may need to be a little more patient.

Another day, another limited edition Maclaren.....
Who is buying all this stuff !?!
Are there really that many serious wealthy long term collectors with space in their collections for yet ANOTHER car ?
You wonder how much of this is all being bought by people hoping to make a quick turn....
Of course, you are absolutely correct. They should still be making the MP4-12C. It seems McLaren don't have a clue. McLaren missed a trick by not employing you. Who is buying all this stuff !?!

I just wonder how many of these vehicles are actually being bought to be owned and how many are speculation...

I really think they nailed the styling of the 720s. It's bold and unconventional, but looks better and better as the years go on.
They are also cars that photographs don’t do justice - a 720S looks way better in real life than on a page, as does the Senna which is epically other-worldly to see up close. Well done McLaren on the first decade, it’s an amazing achievement to have gone from a standing start to taking on the established Italian rivals in such a short space of time.
I doubt they’d do it, but it would also be great to see a “400 series”, aimed straight at the 911/Corvette/Lotus market - that has to be a better way of increasing sales than building a bloody SUV.

You misunderstand - I have full respect for Maclaren for coming out with and selling all these models and variants. They are building a profitable business and if they can find someone to pay a premium for these cars then good luck to them.

Is there much speculation when it comes to McLaren's? They seem to depreciate worse than just about any other rival, even 675LT's seem to have taken a big dip after the initial random number prices I just wonder how many of these vehicles are actually being bought to be owned and how many are speculation...

So glad Mclaren is finally introducing a new model variant, its been at least a week since the last one
McLaren are about to announce one of the models they will be building next year and get criticised for it....That's what McLaren do, they build short runs of bespoke cars.
Duhhhhh - there are some really stupid people making really stupid statements on the McLaren pages.......... Thank goodness you're not working there!

It's a road car though, not a track car. You can't use a 720S in anger on the road. So what's the point? I love fast cars, don't get me wrong, but cars are just too fast now. So fast they're not enjoyable unless on a track.
I have to say, every time I see a McLaren driving down the road, I struggle to tell what version it is. The 720S being the exception, as it does look different to the rest. Being a supercar, you should be able to tell what it is from a very long distance.

Not sure McLaren will be apologising anytime soon for making their super cars cars too fast....
As for too many cars that all look the same, they make x5 cars currently:
-Speedtail
-Senna
-720S
-GT
-600LT/570
All look pretty different to me.
Fantastic sales figures:
In full year 2018, global sales for McLaren Automotive, the British creator of luxury sportscars and supercars, rose to 4,806 cars in 2018 with sales up 43.9% compared to 3340 cars sold in 2017. This is another record for McLaren, which has increased sales every year since its formation in 2010. As usual, McLaren is rather coy with the actual numbers sold per market.

With the 7xx LT coming in at £300k plus fully specked it makes this 600LT look somewhat of a bargain at £174k

another day, another new McLaren model announced.
But it's not another model that has been announced. It's an article about a forthcoming model that anyone who knows anything about cars would have known was sure to be produced at some point and McLaren are somehow getting grief for that? McLaren can and should be getting grief for some things but this new model every day/week stuff some people like to quote is ridiculous.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
