I can't help but look at this and think, unless you are going to track it, why wouldn't you buy a Tesla Model 3 Performance instead?
Maybe it's because it's a Tesla?

The (admittedly limited) view looks really nice. I've never been a huge fan of BMW interiors, but if the current version is nice, I could be very tempted.

The body coloured bit around the exhausts is "marmite" eek

'Fake' diffuser as well, by the looks of it. May just be the angle, tho.

At least the exhaust tips look to be actually real and not just exaggerated surrounds like on a lot of cars.

"Any BMW M3 news is big news on PistonHeads - there are dozens of owners on here, the cars remain top searches on the classifieds, and they make great feature fodder, too. It's the archetypal BMW M car, so big changes are treated with some suspicion, as in the outgoing version using a turbocharged engine."

Justification for this non-story
Not really, the M3 is an important car whether you think so or not, it's one of the most talked about performance cars around, it started the genre like the Golf gti did with the hot hatch, the up coming release of a new one is something that is news worthy on motoring website....I've had 4 so I'm interested in how the new one looks as others will be.

I've just watched a You Tube video of ring testing and it looks like it's got that hideous over-sized grill. hurl I don't normally care much about a car's appearance, but this 'design feature' is so abhorrent to me that I simply couldn't own a car with it.

Just about to post the same thing. Lost for words.

I’m going to pretend this doesn’t exist and look at pictures of the E46 M3. You know, when people who knew what they were doing held the pencils.

This cannot be real, surely? It looks like someone at BMW forgot to lock away the designs while they went for a liquid lunch and the tea boy, who is a huge Audi fan, decided to add the comically bad grills while they were out. Upon returning to the drawings, the now slightly inebriated designer couldn't remember if they were there pre-lunch, so decided it was best to leave them in, just in case. No one then questioned it all the way to production.

They say it’s to differentiate the M cars more from the mainstream product offering. But are people really complaining the current M3/4 looked too much like a 320d? Really? And if so, this was not the nicest way to go about it.

Is that also then going to be the front of the new 4 Series?

It does seem a bit odd. I've not seen a single positive comment about these new grills, and I've seen them discussed on Facebook, Twitter, podcasts, PH, and in the general motoring press.

Mind you, this is great news for profits at Alpine, Birds etc! They'll sell you an M3 rival based on a more humble looking model, which in the past hasn't been that popular a choice, but now....

Perhaps there will become a business in the aftermarket for retrofitting more sensible kidneys!

By all accounts yes, see the 4 series concept for details m3 gets the 4er treatment so that's what we're getting.

Looking at it, and using logic, it would seem it's just the front bumper. Sadly though that would probably invalidate the warranty, and may even upset the cooling - I'm guessing the engineers must love it having such a large grill and have probably sighted oil coolers there, ducting to air intakes, even brake cooling...

The cooling pack won't be any bigger than the traditional look. There will still be bumper bar etc.

Judging by how lively the outgoing m3 was, 4wd will be a good addition. I'd still take the manual rwd one though.
I didn't find it particularly lively compared to the E92, just that it had a hypersensitive traction control. The TC steps in way too early so the light is constantly strobing, giving the impression that it's permanently engaged in some epic battle to prevent certain death. But when I turned the TC off completely it felt even less lairy than the E92 to me, and I wondered what the hell the TC was playing at.

Of course, if you're clumsy or irresponsible with your right foot then you can get into trouble even easier than with an E9x thanks to all that extra torque...

Non-selectable AWD on any M car just seems like a complete farce to me, part of the general dumbing-down of cars to pander to the lowest common denominator, much like some manufacturers dropping manual boxes altogether on certain models.

Looks horrendous, although I don't think it'll look quite so bad when it has a UK number plate on it. Maybe.
