A friend of a friend was a Mitsubishi dealer and we had a Shogun Evolution for a weekend about 20 years ago.
Interior was not good (and I have a Land Rover defender!) but the road performance was unbelievable. I remember being a passenger when slightly more than “a dab of oppo “ was being used on an empty roundabout. Farming friends still have them (not evo!) and I think one of the problems is they don’t fall apart and therefore don’t need to be replaced every three years. I do like them.

Always liked the Shogun, some friends of mine had a 2nd gen LWB 3.5 V6 which was a comfy old boat with a lovely sonorous woofle under load. Plus having an artificial horizon and altimeter on the dash is pretty cool!
The later 3.8 would probably be the one to have now. Sod diesel, sub 30mpg and that agricultural rattle? Just not worth it.

Shoguns and Land Cruiser's became less popular. Locking diffs, low ratio boxes and big A/T tyres were dead weight for most people
To be fair Landcruisers are still popular used cars, when I sold mine the phone was ringing off the hook, I only had the baby 3 litre one too, Amazons seem to hold their value ridiculously well especially the later V8 diesel ones, a lot to do with not only being a very capable 4x4 but a very reliable one too I expect.I loved ours. To be fair having had both I’d not rate the Mitsubishi much under the Toyota, they’re certainly much better value.
I’d have either over another badly built,financially ruinous product from a certain British manufacturer.
I think the problem with it is it looks outdated now, interior is outdated and compared to others on the market; simply overpriced. For the money it costs people would go for the German marques instead.

It has got me thinking is there a gap in the market for a sensibly priced utilitarian SWB 4x4 with 3 doors? We have the Jimny of course, but its tiny.
