The new group called Icons Group is not about diluting. It's simply an acknowledgement that some elements of style and some expectations of brand can be had, to a certain but limited extent, in another form factor.
Fantastic marketing bullst when you’re diluting the brand.

The first two words of your comment are spot-on, imo.

Worse than I was expecting. Looks like the horrific BMW 5 GT abortions and we all know how well those sold

Ignoring the horrible blobby nature though, just WTF is going on with that front filled in grill though?

I mean it's an EV so no massive grill required for the radiator so giving it a massive aperture (larger than the Mustangs) and then filling it with a horrendous blobby cover makes no sense what so ever.

Looks good to my eyes. Too many PHers over-react when they hear 'SUV', but the term is so broad these days as to be virtually meaningless.

Based on the camouflaged prototype (displayed in a post above) that was photographed recently in public... Below is believed to be the most accurate rendering to date of this Mustang-inspired SUV / crossover. Still an unofficial depiction, mind.

To me it does indeed seem to adhere to what we see in that public appearance of the prototype. And I quite like it.

I'll call that a Fusion/Mondeo SUV then I'll feel better.

Having lusted over Mustangs since I was a boy and having owned a 2016 GT,

FORD! LEAVE THE MUSTANG NAME ALONE!

That looks like a Model 3 as drawn by Pixar.

It's almost like manufacturers are trying to see how ugly they need to make a car before people won't buy it...and the answer is there really is no limit. Maybe the Edsel was just 60 years ahead of its time! Edsel SUV anyone? (If you have photoshop skills, please work your magic smile )

I think it looks really good!
And I wasn’t expecting to say that when I saw the thread title.
Update: but I was looking at the wrong image!

I meant to correct spelling and ended up replying to my own post, which is a first even for me

This looks way better than some of the utter toss that has borne the Mustang name, Mustang 2 from the seventies and to be honest a lot of the earlier ones looked a bit lame, they werent all V8 Shelby whatsits over the 50 odd years, a lot of utter dross.

the car has evolved, for a lot of people into crossover type things, because they cover so many bases, Ford would be mad to not do it because a few enthusiasts thinks it sullies the name, the Mustang is whatever Ford says it is !

No everyone wants a massive coupe with limited space and practicality, I might get one next but I am, like you a bit of an edge case compared to millions of potential buyers with young kids and lifestyles that need usable back seats and a decent load area.

I would rather look at that with a bit of Mustang DNA than another anonymous looking thing, hopefully it has a bit of Mustang DNA in how it drives.

More eaugh. I really liked the Mustang interior as well (I hired one for two weeks in the US).

That tablet glued to the dash is gash. Copying Tesla badly (and I'm not particularly a fan of theirs either).

After the ”Mini” and ”Fiat 500” SUVs here comes the ”Ford Mustang” one biggrin I think they should have used a new family name for it like Ford Dildo...

Ok, that screen in the middle, seriously? This must be the worst interior design element i've seen so far (even topping the glued on iPad of the Model 3), very ugly and surely unpratical to use.

What??!!! Is there no car that won’t be turned into a crossover?

I’m just grateful that the E-type was never subjected to this indignity.

I could just about forgive the looks if it was powered by the 5.0 V8 from the Mustang GT.

The cabin does have a minimalist look. And while Ford have borrowed from Tesla vis a vis a vertical tablet mounted on the dashboard... Ford have apparently included a traditional knob at the bottom -- probably to allow easy cycling and clicking on menus.
