I've just picked up my 06 B-spec from a service and MOT, this is a 14 year old car, not garaged and with 156,000 on the clock, so you'd expect some things wrong with it. The list was:
1. Tracking
2. Jammed CD player (secondhand replacement from Legacy forum £30)
3. Windscreen washer hose had some gunk in it
4. Needed new wiper on the tailgate.
And that was it. Total cost, fluids, service, MOT at a main dealer £410.
I do need to get the wheels refurbed and the stone chips touched up, but it's solid.

You're about 20,000 miles ahead of me. I'd be interested to know whether you've had the cam chain tensioners looked at (or know if a previous owner did), as I've seen it mentioned a few times on US forums that they can go at around 140k. But then I've also seen it said a lot that they need the oil changing every 7500 miles tops else they'll explode which seems to be a load of nonsense. If the tensioners are a cheapish job I'll get it done, if it's a biggie I think I'll risk not bothering.1. Tracking

Had an outback version of the same for a few years, looked really nice but not a good quality car and yes exhaust was £500! Traded it in quickly at 90k miles as dashboard started looking like a Christmas tree , was off the road in under a year. Also thin metal so got tons of parking dings

It was unstoppable during the really snowy Winters.
Yes that's always going to be the issue with 4wd. The added traction masks the fact that it doesn't add grip (the right tyre does that bit) so when you have to stop, you realise 4wd doesn't help under braking, if anything it affects braking distances because of the added mass.SidewaysSi said:
These are st beyond belief, Spec B included. Get a BMW and have something decent.
I caned one of these the other day in my old 3 Series - saw him in my mirror understeering off the road and down a ditch.
Could be as much down to driver as car.I caned one of these the other day in my old 3 Series - saw him in my mirror understeering off the road and down a ditch.
I had a good look at a manual Spec B some years ago - engine was nice and smooth and JUST about enough for the weight, but felt the handling was a little soft for me and didn't have a special-enough interior to be worth the pay-off in lost precision. A nice tidy car in the handling vein of an old 405/406, but I was after a little more aggression...hence the FD2.
Anyway, 'tis indeed a good shed, gearbox aside...but then a manual wouldn't be shed money...

I'm calling Bullst on all of this. I caned one of these the other day in my old 3 Series - saw him in my mirror understeering off the road and down a ditch.
Great shed! Slightly biased though.
Mines an auto and I may be turning into an old git but I think it's a great 'box. Super smooth and blinds the 8 speed ZF that everybody wks over that was in the XC60 I had previously. The interior is a great place to be with the big sunroof and cream leather. It feels amazingly well screwed together, again much better than the previous XC60. They really get under your skin. The only blot is the pretty brutal fuel consumption which varies from 21 to 28 depending on journey distance.

Got a Spec.B myself. A bit tame after my previous car but all round a great performer. The low down torque makes a lovely cruiser and with my 6 speed I get 33mpg on a long journey (though currently on 17mpg).
Being super picky, I'd like a rear wiper and sometimes wish it was a lift back instead.

Having now been informed of the Mel Gibson adverts I'd have to have an estate now if I was to have one.Mines an auto and I may be turning into an old git but I think it's a great 'box.
