Why do you continually spam every thread about any hot hatch with what can only be (based upon the repetition) some form of purchase justification and, to make matters worse, pictures of one of the ugliest hot hatches ever made?
Nobody cares about the ugly fraud.
That’s just as ignorant a comment as “white goods”. The CTR is a brilliant car, notwithstanding it’s not a 2 seat special. Nobody cares about the ugly fraud.

29k for a 2 seater Golf with no air con, a car for speculators, nobody’s going to buy a 2 seater Golf to take on track because they’d just buy a sports car like a Lotus or Porsche.
The Civic Type R is the king of hot hatches, on road and track and it will be for a while.
Comes with all the kit you need, air con, rear seats, reasonable price with no extra model coming out every 6 months. No options, you go to Honda, Type R GT and that’s it.
With Golfs and Megane, there’s always a newer better model out that outdates yours, the options list means you can easily get into 40k.

The Civic is the only honest hot hatch here and it’s also the best, before anyone tells me about the Ring’ time, I read that the lack of rear seats was to offset the weight of the roll cage. Honda came, built a car to the best of their ability and put it on sale. The rest build cars, hold them back and release more versions and price them higher. It’s fine as they’re a business you can’t deny the greatness and honesty.
Sorry, I’m slightly biased.

Now this I agree with. But when the lead designer of Honda let his 6 year old design the Civic after watching Transformers and then Fast&Furious back-to-back, they dropped the ball.
Somewhere between VAG blandness and Honda "MORE SPOILERS AND USELESS VENTS AND PLASTIC BITS HERE AND THERE" would be absolutely spot on.
For youSomewhere between VAG blandness and Honda "MORE SPOILERS AND USELESS VENTS AND PLASTIC BITS HERE AND THERE" would be absolutely spot on.
There is a place for bland and crazy looking cars, each to their own, being able to make such a choice is a good thing
There is no denying the ability of all of these cars so we are living the hot hatch dream at the moment
Regarding the CTR and hatred, I knew when I got one it was a marmite car and I was one of the few that appreciates the bonkers (childish if you like) looks so I felt lucky when I drove one and realised that for me I had found my ideal car
The thing that has really surprised me though is how many people I have spoken to whilst out and about who love it
I remember my old boss who spec'd an Escort Cosworth with the spoiler delete as at the time people struggled with the cars looks, you would struggle to find one person now who thinks the same
FK8 ahead of it's time maybe .
For now though I will take the flak for looking like a chav as I am lucky enough to drive it everyday

It’s just a Golf a faster one admittedly but still only a Golf, it’s the same with all that Focus RS nonsense they strap a few shiny go faster bits on them and suddenly they become cutting edge sports cars...they will always be white goods cars nothing special at all.
The values of these cars suggest that they are anything but white goods.Chestrockwell said:

You really don't help yourself. Car companies are there to make a profit. If they can release further models and updates that help them to make more money, then why wouldn't they? You could also argue that the Honda is the least honest - after all, you can't buy one in 'ring spec and there are plenty of questions surrounding the validity of its time, much more so than with the other manufacturers.
The Civic is a great car, no doubt about it, but a bit of objectivity is never a bad thing.
The only downside of the clubsport is the lack of rear seats and no aircon. Both easily achievable to do as an aftermarket add on.

I agree about objectivity but I think we can take pretty much all of the manufacturers ring times with a pinch of salt, nothing as far as I know is regulated You could also argue that the Honda is the least honest - after all, you can't buy one in 'ring spec and there are plenty of questions surrounding the validity of its time, much more so than with the other manufacturers.

I do know that's it's pretty irrelevant in the real world, all these cars are more capable than most drivers so there really is no bad choice
There is definitely a group of people here who would say it was boring white goods if it was 1500 bhp, styled like an Enzo and could fly.
Newsflash: Just because it has a certain badge, doesn't mean it's terrible and dull.
I wonder how many of the naysayers:
A: Have driven one
And
B: Have the driving ability to tell the difference between a sorted car and a terrible one.

Yes you are likely right. There is a chance that many of them have added some extra power, or tweaked a few bits here and there. At least they hide it though I do know that's it's pretty irrelevant in the real world, all these cars are more capable than most drivers so there really is no bad choice

What, like a Megane RS Cup? It even comes with 18' wheels as std so no one can use the excuse of the track tyres being too expensive, although Chester would probaby do that anyway.

The latter point is somewhat irrelevant to most drivers. If a “drivers’” car can’t strike up a relationship with the “average” driver that’s likely to buy one, it’s not a great road car. A road car that requires “special” driving skills, generally beyond those of its target market, to shine, is not a very good/engaging car and misses its target. Interesting that the rarity of the air con delete is being spun into a positive by the seller (5 cars out of 150). The overwhelming majority being built with air con is quite telling. Rare is not always better.
I'd look it as a positive tbhI wanted an e46 csl without aircon as I didn't the see the point in paying such a premium for -100kg then putting 15% of expensive weight savings back in. couldn't find a single one for sale though

Was driven around Nordschleife by a racing driver in a Megane R26, was incredible. I know people who have switched from 991 GT3, to Golf CS and then Merc Amg GTR - albeit a cheaper alternative, the VW is still no less fun on track. Anyone who thinks these sort of hot hatches are bland has obviously not had much to do with them.

Yeah I'd say you're not far off the money with that. The thing is, I don't have a problem with spoilers etc - as long as they're designed well and flow with the car. The Civic just looks like a horrendous mess of angles and plastic trim that's trying far too hard to be the stand-out.It even comes with 18' wheels as std so no one can use the excuse of the track tyres being too expensive, although Chester would probaby do that anyway.
