I like America, and I like my 993. I live in London with my US Citizen partner have visited the States a fair bit doing a fair bit of driving – which is where this madcap idea started. This year we decided to put the Porsche on a boat and collect it at the other side for the road trip of a lifetime.

Starting and ending in the fabulous State of Tennessee, we travelled east to Charleston, as far north as the Badlands and Mount Rushmore, out west to Palm Springs, and back again through the deserts and along the coast to New Orleans.

I’m convinced we all like a road trip, and being London based the 993 has ventured with us to Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, down to the South of France through the Alpes, and Ireland. All fabulous places. None of them even close to the experience America delivered.

And for those who just want to see a few of the photos here you go…

I’d love to do this but I’ve heard so many horror stories of cars being trashed at the docks or en route.
Please tell more - I can imagine the joy at filling the tank for £4.50 in old money !

Would it have been cheaper renting one there?
I've done several road trips, Florida, California, Smokey Mountains (via Florida, Georgia, Tennessee), always rented something interestingly american, Mustang V8, Dodge Charger etc I quite fancy a pick up next time smile

Always enjoyed it but found last time (2016) it was best to ignore politics when chatting to people.... wink

Quality.

In fact, you've shown us more of the States than Timmy-time, and he's suppoed to be 'road-trippin'.

There was talk of a TVR tour some years ago:-

Think the thread died as it was difficult to insure the cars.

I guess you don't like the front of your car, since all but one of the photos is of the rear end 😉

Almost certainly. I guess the fun is doing in your own wheels. As above I wouldn't be too confident it would survive the journey unscathed.

I remember seeing a properly battered F reg Honda Civic in Death Valley. I'd love to know what the story was behind that.

This is the last thing I needed to see while suffering a serious case of Monday morning blues, maybe I should go book a holiday.

Looks like a great trip, tremendous photography too, well played OP.
