Why the hate for SUV convertibles?

I thought Range Rover had tested and killed the whole concept of convertible SUVs with their short attempt at selling Evoque with a folding top. But today I encountered a VW T-Roc cabriolet for the first time. Bizarre thing. Will it catch on and start a new craze? Can't see it myself.

its been on sale since 2020, you've seen one and I live in a place you'd expect to see plenty and haven't seen a single one. I expect it will be quietly droppedhttps://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/volkswagen/t-r...

SUV convertibles aren't exactly a new thing are they? In the 90s, we had Vitaras, Jimnys, Fronteras, Daihatsu Sportraks, Freelander 1s, Wranglers etc. I had a Jimny softop as a company car briefly and it was horrific at 40mph+ but kind of fun just pottering around with the roof off!
But, IIRC, none were full convertibles like the Evoque or T-Roc, just SUVs with a bit of tent action going on round the back ()Frimley111R said:

What were vw actually thinking? It serves no purpose and it looks silly. Who would buy a convertible suv?
I reckon it serves the purpose of being a convertible and a SUV, which is more than the purpose of a SUV and more than the purpose of a convertible.
The people in question seem to have found purposes for them, stuff like going places they go to. A bit like a car basically.

This may come as a shock to you, but not everyone will share your view and your tastes

Something that never fails to amaze me is the amount of people unable to see beyond their own choices and tastes.
I've always been a bit like that with diesel convertibles. The whole idea of a convertible is to hear the engine/exhaust far more(from a nice sounding petrol engine)for me, so a clattery diesel engine and its exhaust wouldn't be something that I would want to hear even more.As you say it just boils down to different choices and tastes, and I will admit to test driving a E93 330d convertible years ago, but I didn't go through with it because the car sold while I was making my mind up about it!
