But here's a question for you. Why are the SUV coupes disagreeable? They have most of the same capabilities as the cars they're based on with a different outline. An X6 may have less luggage capacity than an X5, but it still holds loads more than a lot of cars.
The way I see it, SUV coupes are a bit of a mish mash of different bits of other models, more of a soggy compromise of 2 or 3 different models bound into 1. So in the case of the X6, it's less spacious than an X5, less engaging to drive than an M6, arguably an M5 estate would do the practical side of things just as well (if not better) but with better performance and handling too. SUV coupes just feel like a compromise, bought by people as a status symbol rather than a specific purpose.

SUV's in general are a victory for marketing. Most are just hatchbacks on stilts, they don't offer much extra other than a raised seating position but with (slightly) compromised handling. And deludes people into thinking they have a proper off roader. One of the reasons someone at work bought a Qashqai was in case it snows wobble

But saying all that, I don't care what people buy. Freedom of choice these days is being eroded and as a petrolhead it would be hypocritical for me to say people shouldn't buy these cars. Yes, a convertible SUV looks stupid, but if someone wants one then crack on....

You say that like it's a bad thing! biggrin

I like them. To my mind they make more sense than an SUV coupe because there is a reason for the lack of practicality.

To be honest, The Evoque convertible really appealed me but it was the first time in my life that I was put off from buying a car because of the amount of hate they received. I'm actually a bit ashamed of myself for allowing myself to be put off. Maybe I'll fix that.
Had the opposite effect on me. I liked them from the get go and the amount of hate has made me more determined than ever to get one, probably in a few years when I retire and the company car goes. It will be orange, with black wheels.

What we REALLY need, are convertible and coupe vans. The last remaining niches to be filled?

Transit Coupe
Sprinter Cabrio
Citroen Dispatch with a rag top?

They have a good pedigree:

James Bond

The Queen

the military

or

or

cool beyond almost anything else on the road

there is a huge history of convertible 4x4s - the only unreasonable thing is calling them SUVs biggrin
those who are anti - usually says more about them than the car - maybe it is their way of bigging themselves up by putting others down?

and for the non-purists, I bring you Kahn's interpretation biggrin

You do see them so someone is buying them, people like different stuff, just because we are into cars doesn't mean they are wrong and we are right.

Petrolheads make some pretty stupid/rash decisions with regards to cars.

We arent the target market so I just treat it as per other stuff that isnt aimed at, or of interest to me, I tend to ignore it. Just because I like cars and it is a car and I like cars, doesnt mean I have to have an negative opinion of that one as it doesn't float my boat.

Its aimed at ladies in the main, they like the Evoque, as do a lot of men as well, so its an obvious extension of that.

I don't get offended when I go to get a pie and see a Organic, Vegan Quinoa salad, I just give it a wide berth.

Or slam on a pintel mount and ma-deuce, hey presto modern day jeep.

Why anyone thinks these are new, or even a recent fashion fad is a bit out of touch. In the late 80s it was SJ410s, the 90s saw the Vitara with 10inch wide bodykits (putting Liberty Walk to shame) and there's always been a convertible Wrangler.

Seems the only people offended are "petrolhead snowflakes". If people want to buy em, go for it.

If platform sharing and economies of scale allow loads of varients of a car - where is the issue? These things aren't eye bleech, and since they seem to be targeted at 20+ women up to MILF; I'm quite interested to see whoms driving it.

I have a 2 seat Convertible but I don't get to use it that much because I can't fit my 2 kid's in it...maybe an Evoque Convertible could be the way forward for me in fairness! scratchchin

I do tend to prefer a 2 seat Convertible to a 4 seat one though for some reason. I used to really dislike any Convertible years ago...but now I'm older/more boring/mid life crisis/want to be young again...I really like them and I appreciate roof down motoring.

And what exactly is your point here? Or do you just like polluting this space with gratuitous foul mouthed proof of your limited intellect? Such a tard!

Covertible off roaders have a long tradition, the original Jeep, Land Cruiser, Defender, G- Klasse etc.

ah bless, the pistonhead snowflake.

Soft SUV Convertible / Fashion statements have been around for more than 28 years. If this rage has been buring that long, see someone.

Did you watch the clip ? Pretty obvious I would have thought you 'Tard.

SUVs are heavy, large, poor handling, inefficient, overly expensive triumphs of marketing form over function when a fast estate does pretty much everything far better. Making a convertible lifestyle accessory is even more pointless but no doubt will be a huge success amongst a certain type of car buyer...

That's a Land Rover demonstration, no owners will do that.
