Why the hate for SUV convertibles?

I'm a big believer in form following function. A sports car looks nimble and fast because they are. A 4x4 looks like it can go anywhere because it can. An SUV looks like it can't do either.. because it can't.
Of course it can - surely longer travel and clearance will get you places where a conventional height hatch won't. The limit will obviously be traction, particularly on road tyres but there must be a massive middle ground between "proper" off road and purely tarmac. I have been taking our 2wd faux off roaders places that an hatch and estate simply won't get too for the past 10 years. Form does indeed follow function. I am not too keen on the silly off road style looks but in fairness I don't care about image so I am not going to deprive myself from the added functionality just because I don't like the looks either.

Riddle me this.
My wife needed a car that was big, fast-ish, 4WD, comfortable, can seat 5 people with a decent sized boot, that can also tow 2400kg
What non-SUV should she have bought?
You're talking about form following function, but you're only thinking about functions that interest you.
Think a bit harder.
I'll need to replace my Mk2.5 Octavia vRS soon. I have similar criteria (without the towing), so I'm very interested in any answers to this riddle! My wife needed a car that was big, fast-ish, 4WD, comfortable, can seat 5 people with a decent sized boot, that can also tow 2400kg

ETA - an A8 would fit that brief though, assuming the boot was big enough.

I guess the alternative would be an A6 Avant, although whether they get to 2400kg towing capacity I'm not sure.
Not even close I'm afraid. 2100kg IIRC is the max braked towing capacity for the 'best' A6.A8 will tow 2300kg. And a saloon style boot isn't ideal for storing and lifting her stuff in and out of.

Ah, fair enough.A8 will tow 2300kg. And a saloon style boot isn't ideal for storing and lifting her stuff in and out of.

I had a similar challenge trying to find a 4WD convertible with four seats and able to tow 2000kg!
