Battery was installed by BMW a few years ago. Clearly they have no idea how to code the thing to the car's BMS, but there's likely a sensor fault somewhere in the HVAC that they also screwed up while doing recall work on the blower motor wiring.

Bit of a shambles really.

There is sometimes a sensor in the brake servo that fails too.

Fiat Panda with brighter LED indicator lamps and brake lights fitted, and giving a discreet warning message along with an exclamation mark in a triangle on the dash display, despite them all working as intended. Is that a fail, or should no 'bulb out' warnings be displayed in order for it to pass?

As long as they all work as they should, and produce a decent amount of light, it shouldn't be an issue

I know you can MOT the car a month early and preserve your anniversary date. Now that the details are all online do I need to take in the printout from last year, or will the tester just work it out from the online system?

You don't need a printout. It'll happen automagically.

I always say 29 days or less.

It's a month minus a day, so yep. Except for February MOTs.

First registered December 2008.

TPMS Fault message on dashboard.

Car built before the date of TPMS being required, so presumably not an MoT fail ?

Would the fault be an Advisory?

Would the fault be ignored completely, because the car is 2008 ?

May just get an advise, that's what I usually do just to make customers aware its on!
You'd be amazed how many people don't notice dash lights

Bugger, failed! 'Bulb out' warning was fine but it failed on the LED units I've got installed in the original halogen headlamp units, despite the LEDs being installed and passed for the previous two tests. Didn't argue it with the tester, but I'll simply need to switch back to the halogen bulbs and retest.

The rules changed in early 2021, I believe.

It probably should have failed last year, but they may not have been fully up on the change?

I have an MOT booked for next week, but a stone cracked the windscreen yesterday. It is a horizontal crack about 7cm long starting at the very edge of the near-side of the windscreen, outside the swept area.

I am going to get it fixed but can't get a booking until after the MOT date. Is this an MOT fail as I have read that anything over 4cm is a fail, but also found other opinions that as it is outside the swept area it is OK.

Thats classed as zone B and a crack for greater than 40mm is a fail.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. Looks like the MOT will need to wait until the screen is replaced.

Zone B is over 40mm within the swept area

If it doesn't materially affect the drivers view of the road then it will just be a minor defect. So as long as nothing else is wrong than it'll be a pass with defects.
