I have an old Mercedes coupe (1991 230CE). I've been told the front seats only lock into position with the doors shut and engine on. Is this true? I have noticed several mentions of seats not being secured in upright position on old MOT's for this model.

Does this look like an ok beam pattern, it's actually on the ceiling because my lights are on the bonnet and it's parked in a car port so nothing in front to point it at, I might be able to shuffle things around and get a better shot when it's dark.

It failed for no beam pattern, I've used a head light restore kit, but I didn't see what they looked like before so this could be a great improvement or the same.

Mini? Hard to say without them on the beam tester but they look ok from the pic

Yeah it is a mini.
The tester said there was absolutely no beam pattern he didn't think a polish would be enough.

What does bumper adrift (offside front) mean? Not clipped in/not fixed?

That's what I would take it mean.

Yes, unless there is easy access to the rear as the floors etc need to be inspected.

Hi, on one of my cars the radiator fan failed so I fitted one I already had from another car. Everything works fine, but it sits slightly further forward than the original fan. This necessitated removing the fan guard from the slam panel.

The result is that if you're careless when you jam your hand in under the bonnet to release the catch, you could contact the fan.

I will tell the tester the situation and to be careful, but will this be an issue for the MOT?

Funnily enough…
It had both cylinders leak at 30k and 4 years old…
Covered under the vw approved used warranty?
No… £804 later it was still rubbish.. hehe

62k and both rear arches have rust starting so going to see if vw corrosion warranty is worth a damn.
Only ever serviced at vw so here’s hoping.
Can’t wait to get rid of it.
£804 ? It’s about £175 for 2 cylinders, set of shoes fitted and adjusted.

I have no idea why people buy Polo’s the Up is a much better car.
Totally forgot to reply. Oops.

It was done by the local vw main dealer.
The same dealer that the cars full service history is with.
Who we bought the car from a year earlier.
Who sold the car with 2 years approved warranty on it.

So I had, wrongly as it turned out, expected the dealer to fix it under warranty.
Nope. Not covered so had to pay main dealer prices for everything to get replaced.

Expensive mistake and a learned lesson.

The pastic trim on the seat belt buckle has broken on my car.

The actual buckle and mechanism work absolutely fine, the pre-tensioner works fine, etc. Everything works as it should.
However, actual plastic trip (which physically does nothing) is taped together to keep it in place.
Is this a fail?

Also, the contact for the sensor on whether the belt is on or not has now broken, so whilst everything works I have a constant seatbelt warning light on.
Is this a fail?

I have no issues getting a replacement part, but equally don't want to replace the part unnecessarily given the buckle appears to be fine when you apply a lot of load/pressure to it.

Anyone noticed outstanding recalls show on the bottom of the test certificate now.

Yeah, knew it was coming but I didn't realise they were going to automatically add it to the certificate!

Yep we knew it was coming but like you I didn’t realise they were just adding them to the certificate. I was losing the will to live getting through the message with all the info about Ukrainian vehicles though!
Here’s a repair/bodge a customer did this week. The hazard switch didn’t always pop up when pressed so he came up with this novel solution.

If you have a car that from the factory had no ABS and a brake force compensator valve fitted at the rear axle, but you then retrofit ABS from a later vehicle where the compensation is done in the ABS unit, will it fail the MOT if you remove the compensator valve at the rear axle?
