Do you get excited about MOT testing any particular cars?
Have you ever damaged a car during an MOT?
Are there any MOT rules you would like to see changed?
Not excited as such but I like seeing the old stuff, 1950s and 60s, that we test. Have you ever damaged a car during an MOT?

I’ve burst a few corroded brake pipes in my time and once ripped the lining off a brake shoe in the rollers, locking the wheel so we had to move the car on a dolly. Chap was not impressed.
I think the current system is fair but I would change worn brake pads to a major defect rather than dangerous. A 1mm thick brake pad will still work perfectly well.
Oh, and there are far to many reasons to fail number plates!

I'm looking at changing the headlights on my Westfield to something like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-75-Motorcycle-Project...DgAAOSwxohdLGVh
They have dipped beam, main beam and DRL but no sidelight.
Will this fail the MOT? Having read the MOT manual its not clear to me.
The manual says DRL's can function as sidelights, but as they won't turn on (without modification) unless the engine is running I can't see this being OK.
Headlights can also function as sidelights, but the manual states "It must be possible to switch on the position lamps from the driver’s seat with a single operation of the switch." and the headlights are on the second click of the button.
Hence, will I be able to pass an MOT with these LED headlights without a dedicates sidelight. Or, will I need to do some modification?

Most of which are routinely ignored by the police all year round (predominantly dodgy spacing to 'spell' a word) which means they can't be that important.Edited by Little Pete on Saturday 14th December 08:51

Right guys, I need an MOT testers to help! Bit of an annoying issue, car is a JDM import never sold in UK and I got a chip right in the "a" zone of the windscreen. I had it repaired with resin to stop it from getting worse but it is still visible (if you know where to look)
The issue is I can't get a windscreen anywhere, even Toyota Japan do not make them anymore.
I took a picture next to a £1 coin, any ideas if this will be okay? I mean visibility wise I can't even see it unless I look for it but going by the book it might be different.
Thanks

VW with some iffy electrics, when signalling left the engine management and hazard warning lights flash inside the car but the signals outside operate as they should. Engine management light (and bonnet open light) also come on when the door is open with the key in the ignition. No actual fault codes, EML off at all other times. Pass or fail?
Bit of mot weirdness here .
We traded my wifes old car back in September and it was due MOT this month (CF15RGF) so checking the mot history, I see that its been tested three times since September failed once and passed twice in October ? The car was in mint condition with unmarked and legal number plates so I assume the plate must have been damaged to fail IF it was a genuine fail, but why would it have been passed twice ?

Pulled up by the Police with some daft mod or being unroadworthy and they were told to get it tested? We traded my wifes old car back in September and it was due MOT this month (CF15RGF) so checking the mot history, I see that its been tested three times since September failed once and passed twice in October ? Would the cornering light failure warning light on adaptive Xenons cause an MOT fail? Read through the guidance but it seemed mostly focused on auto level for xenons and washers which do all work. Thanks.
Not testable, as long as the pattern is good and the levelling works it's all goodAthlon said:
