Can't help but feel Honda missed an opportunity by not releasing a box arched version of the modern-looking concept design and calling it the Honda Cit-e, as a callback to the old City Turbo II.

I like your thinking!

I've long had a thought about Honda making a new Z600, but the e is pretty nice anyway.

Looks excellent; is anyone really surprised it's a 5 door? Sales of 3 door hatches have been collapsing for years.

I love it, looks pretty close to the concept really.

Hmm, I hope that's before the grant if they hope to sell to anyone other than dedicated Honda fans. £23k OTR would be reasonable as long as the interior and technology is a step up from the Zoe to make up for the lack of range.

Interesting that it’s rear wheel drive.

I think it's going to be increasingly common on dedicated EV platforms (as opposed to FWD ICE cars which have had an electric motor dropped in). Certainly the base VD ID3 is going to be RWD too.

If it’s more than £25k seems pointless against the new 208e which can do around 210 miles and is supposed to cost £25k, or the new corsa e which is already going to be available for £260 a month

Concept: Totally Honda Civic Mk 1 crossed with Peugeot 205 GTi
Execution: Twingo or something... dull as dishwater.

Judging by the pic, the 208e is ugly though.

I will reserve judgment until I see one in the metal/plastic.

From those pictures, it does appear to have lost some of it's looks from the concept images. Also looks significantly taller so looks more like the last Twingo and more of a typical city car.

[quote]Order banks for the Honda E, which is expected to be priced from £30,000, open in October, ahead of deliveries in spring 2020. Factoring in the government’s £3500 plug-in grant, its set to cost £26,500, almost £1500 more than rival, the electric Peugeot e-208.

Suggested price is from £30k, with higher spec models costing £35k.

The 9000 who've signed up aren't necessarily buyers, just registrations of interest.

Semi funky looks and cameras instead of wing mirrors aren't enough to justify the premium over the competition, some of which have double the Honda's range.

I think they've missed the point, no one has wing mirror anxiety but almost everyone has range anxiety.

Just shows what a hard time designers have with us lot rofl Some think it looks the same, some like me think it looks very different.

This

isn't anything like this to me

Apart from the grille looking similar it looks to me like they threw the rest of the concept away. The real thing even has an extra pair of doors which always spoil the looks of small cars.

Anyway, each to their own. I just thought it was a shame they could keep it close to the concept rather than making something that looks like a modified Skoda Fabia.

Yup, no one has ever bought a car because they liked the look and feel of it...

Hold on a minute,

There's a new, small car that's:

  • torquey (at low speeds anyway)
  • RWD
  • 50:50 weight distribution
  • Low centre of gravity
  • Not stupidly heavy (1400kg for an EV isn't amazing but it isn't bad, modern Golf GTi territory)
... and the article's focused on the styling?
