Was quite impressive considering the performance, this was with some spirited driving too. I never quite worked out how much it was costing to charge though.

It would be a great car as a pure EV I recon, without the engine in the rear, there would be more boot space, and more room for the rear seating perhaps.

As a total BMW nut, I have to say the i8 has really dated and, in sales terms, obviously hasn’t succeeded, no doubt because of the bonkers price. It also doesn’t have the pace of any M car and therefore doesn’t deliver. But if I could afford one and didn’t have kids, I’d have to go for the Porsche, which does do it better. It’s an achievement but, a bit like Concorde, I wonder if BMW, Audi or Mercedes will try anything like it again, anytime soon. Somehow I doubt it.
In what way has it dated? It still looks unique and special on the road, its drivetrain is as modern as anything else, it's performance is current, as is everything else. A car is only dated when it's contemporaries have moved on. This doesn't have any.

"Is it me or are the big manufacturers still dragging their heels over electrification, certainly seems that way to me"

And long may the drag continue! No true car enthusiast can possibly welcome the death of the internal combustion engine.
