Definitely some cars that look better without front plates than with, the Aventador on launch was a good candidate for being seen more often than not without front plates.

I remember driving a Ford Escape (the US version of a Kuga) in Indiana a few years back, a US region that doesn't require a front numberplate. I did notice how the majority of cars on the road had subtly different front ends as they didn't need to accommodate a numberplate, and how they all looked quite tidy as a result.

rofl at the kids who think every car is designed with a numberplate in mind, must be their first year 10 business studies coursework.

18 months with no front plate and the only time it's been questioned was while entering an unrestricted toll road, in a different country.
I've always kept a sticker plate in the boot to try a talk my way out of the fine should I get asked. I guess the fact that my car looks like it shouldn't have a plate on the front, as there is no place designed in by the manufacturer, means a blind eye is turned in most cases. Add this to the fact I drive sensibly and don't draw undue attention to myself.
I'm certainly not doing it to avoid detection. In fact, it's quite the opposite as entering and exiting pre-paid carparks can be a chore due to the fancy anpr systems in use these days.
I have no need to avoid forward facing cameras as they wouldn't be trying to snap me anyway.

In other words, super car designers are either lazy or incompetent or both.
Thats very true............. but as you say thats "supercars" not the sort of audi-doody every joey and his brother seems to be renting in all the major uk cities these days with a badge on it that contains an S or an R. Presumably they always walk away from or to up their cars from the front so they can admire their handywork and remind themselves of the image their trying to give others on the road ....you gotta laugh. Its only a number plate.

If there's no where to put it, why carry a number plate?

Most Ferrari 458 I have seen don’t have a front plate anywhere , yet seem to get away with it
Guy I know has one. I said to him, dont you need a front number plate.? He replied, no.

I said, are you sure, I m sure its illegal?. Oh, yes I know it's illegal, I just dont need one he replied.

I dont think a fine would bother him to be honest.

Where I live, you couldn't get to town without plod pulling you. It would be an expensive drive.

That said, if you'd obviously lost a plate due to sticky pad failure, I doubt they'd be arsey about it. But my front plate bracket would look like the plate had just fell off, not like I was on my way to Aldi car park for a meet with a load of import owners.

Hence it should be 3 points as well as a fine.

Yep it's either that or front plates don't look good.

Steve Jobs used to run around in a car (big Mercedes?) with no plates. Someone dug into how he was able to do that, and it turned out to be quite simple - there was a grace period for newly registered cars in which you could drive without a plate fitted.

He just got a new car every couple of months.
Steve Jobs did it so it could park in disabled bays.

"Deleting" a number plate is an odd way to say remove.
"Deleting" the numberplate makes your car look so much better than "stock". hehe
Yep, it's the bellends that use the word 'stock' in the place of 'standard' that are the ones most likely to 'delete' something important like a front number plate.

Sheeple.

I drive quite quickly so don't want to give our friends another reason to stop me. Not worth it.

Fine if you like to cruise around thinking you look good though.

Nowhere to put a plate on a 3 series?

There's always a traffic cop in a bad mood (but I've never met a bad one yet). So if he's being really pedantic and insists, I'll put it on the bonnet. Like I said. It's never been an issue so is purely for the "just-in-case" sinario.

Not a wind up question, but why not put it on the bonnet and leave it there?

Because it would look stupid. The car was not designed to hold a front plate so it looks odd with one on. There is a dealer solution but again, it just looks odd. It's purely personal prefrence but it's a risk I'm taking.

I've seen them on the bonnet of caterhams, I can't say I thought it looked stupid. But I guess it's a personal taste thing.

What car is it btw?

I get the ones who show their cars - like dogs - the presentation is somewhat 'false' for that particular event.

But you do see plateless bangers far too often.

The real enthusiasts find a way to permanently display, with removability for shows.
