Should you consolidate your Defender threads?
If you are struggling to keep up with multiple Defender threads, consolidating your threads could help you take back control. Here is how it works and when you should do it.
What is thread consolidation?
It is where you put all identical threads into one easy to manage thread, normally to reduce confusion or to make it less fking annoying.

I have 2 defenders already, they’re great for all the reasons we all know. This one looks to be brilliant in all sorts of longer , more comfortable sort of journey ways. But, it’s got EIGHTY-THREE ECU’s apparently, and an 8 speed auto box.
Judging by normal modern LR failure rates, this will not be a pleasant ownership proposition. And I hate thinking that! Because I want it not to be that way. As with my L322...

I just had a play about with the configurator. On the PCP option it looks like they're forecasting around 50% depreciation over 3 years and 45k miles (PCP shows 48k on the road, final payment 23k).
An Evoque depreciates 30 - 38 % over 3 years, less when first introduced. Those numbers are very wrong.

Thought you only needed one ecu for the engine and possibly one for the gearbox. Judging by normal modern LR failure rates, this will not be a pleasant ownership proposition. And I hate thinking that! Because I want it not to be that way. As with my L322...
What on Earth are the other EIGHTY ONE ecus for?

I love it. I want one. I too specced a modest one up on the configuration and got to 48k, £5k down, £766 p/m with a 22k balloon.
That’s a mortgage on a 3 bed here oop north with change the spare. Just to RENT one.
Although I could pay that, as a suburban ire with no need for an off road vehicle, I would feel that I was pouring my money away. That’s a mortgage on a 3 bed here oop north with change the spare. Just to RENT one.

I didn't know where the Velar fitted in I’m not sure model lines and fitting in is a thing anymore!

Yep. I’ve no need for one at all. The yearn is strong. I could stretch to one, but I couldn’t do it to myself.
I've never looked into the costs of PCP for cars like that, but it is quite illuminating if that's how much so many people are paying to keep one. It's a different discussion, but the benefit of driving around in one compared with, say, a £25K car for most must be marginal at best!

I am in awe of this great looking car but two things are stopping me from having one.
1. I can't afford one.
2. If I could I suspect when the ecu that controls the headrest fails, which is linked to the engine management, gearbox and all the other ecus, it will put the car into 'Limp Home Mode' and will be impossible to diagnose.
