Genuinely amusing. You are given the impression that some new boy went and designed a good looking car only for the unergruppenfurher of the ugly department whose been running the show for years to lose his st and demand the grill was added to show he’s still in charge.

It’s grillE.

You cook burgers on a grill.

In this case though, perhaps a grill would have been better.

The grille merging together doesn't look right, but I guess this is the new "design language"...

Like it apart from the grill, which would be enough to stop me buying one. BMW will shoot themselves in the both feet if that grill makes it to production.
Maybe in Western markets, but the logic of the massive grille in the X7 and 7Series is that the Chinese apparently love a big grille. They want everyone to know what they've got.

And the Chinese market is bigger.

Chinese market is big enough they could make and launch this in china, except this is Frankfurt not China.

And China dont want piston engine cars.

I've had my heart set on the new M440i as my next car, but I think I might have just changed my mind because of that fookin grill
Same! I try to lurk in the shadows in the threads of the X7 and new 7 Grilles and hate the fact I can’t defend BMW and make logical explanations as to why they’ve done it and how it can be appealing. I made peace with the new 7 as it does look nice in some photos BUT.

There’s a 750i in my local BMW dealer and it’s an SWB, in a nardo grey like colour with the black grille, I’ve seen it being driven around sometimes as I think it’s a demo and...yeah, it’s a no from me. Hideous, don’t know what BMW were thinking as the pre LCI is a very handsome looking car.

The good thing is/was/could still be is that I’ll never be in the market for the 7 series or X7 so I don’t care BUT, having owned a 4 series for nearly 3 years, I had my eyes on the next model for when I get bored of my current car but never will if that’s how it will look. I only hope they don’t put that grille on it

It is heading for a mini 8 look overall. As opposed to a coupe 3.

As said before it is for the Chinese market. I still think the front ends are divisive they fit more on the SUV X cars than the traditional saloon series.

Meh. Everyone calm down.

Production runs never look like the concepts.

That grill will not see the light of day.

I'm going to go against the flow here, but I like that BMW has done that grill. Thank God for manufacturers who don't want to converge design iterations until every car segment just has clones of each other in it.

No, my problem is they haven't balanced the overall design; that front end needs more bold styling to the rest of the car. It just looks wrong because it looks like they've slapped a big front onto conservative body. Rolls Royce and Bentley have been doing exaggerated front ends a long time and (most of the time), they've made it work.

these two guys in one of the photos, I guess they're the designers.
Either that or they are some other BMW executives and they haven't seen the front, yet.

They wouldn't be smiling if they'd stepped forwards and taken a look.

The first photo isn't especially flattering, perhaps it looks better in the metal!

It would be nice to see a new release BMW and think 'wow that's stunning' rather than wtf (and that's coming from a full on BMW fanboy).

BMW concepts are historically very much like the finished product. Unfortunately in this case.

I remember the original concept for the 4 series(it looked amazing to my eyes) but sadly the production model looked nothing like it. So I'm hoping that this one follows suit.

The new Supra looks nothing like the original concept either, so I've got my fingers crossed this won't look anywhere near as bad as it does now.
