I’ve had my Giulia Veloce for nearly 2 years now. Sold my m2 as it was a blunt instrument compared the the Giulia !
Ride handling and steering is sublime, better tech would be nice but I wouldn’t swap that for the basic engineering gone into this platform.
Ti model not worth the extra compared to the veloce unless the ti offering included performance pack as standard.
Can’t think of what to replace it with !

Or a manual BMW E90 330i - I just can't see how these cars justify their price, but then again I am a bit old-school! rolleyes

I used to say that until I drove a new modern up to date car for 2+ years plus. I’ve always hankered after an E46 M3 and can easily afford one now debt free but I just couldn’t live with one everyday without the Bluetooth, music interface, apple car play etc etc! It sounds silly really but when you’re used to something, that’s it!

I can’t believe how light the Alfa is compared to the Jag, it’s even lighter than the F-Type.
I can't either... as in, I don't. Put it on a set of scales and I'll believe what those say. Bet that it's at least 100kg more...
Oh lordy. Just remembered when I test drove the Alfa 2 years ago and the dealer (stunk of cheap aftershave, top 3 shirt buttons open, full 1970s lingo) was telling me 'it was designed by Ferrari, they applied Formula one technology so it weighs well under a ton'.

Deary me, that dealer was bad (Desira Finchley). Shared with Jeep and Fiat, 3 TVs on full blast in the tiny showroom (and music as well), Would never buy an Alfa whilst that was my dealer. Just no chance.

Right oh, but I just want to drive my cars (debt free in my debt free house) rather than play with Blue teeth, interfacing music or apples - I can do that when I am using my PC, which lets me focus my attention on what I am doing when I'm driving with no distractions unlike so many others!

I would not even drive that Jaguar. The Alfa Guilia has always been my first choice in saloon cars.Period. Thanks Alfa Romeo.

The A3 / RS3 is a smaller car than these 2. A4 range is the direct competitor.
The Alfa is only 16cm longer and 6cm wider than the RS3 saloon. As I stated before, it is going to struggle for sales v the RS3 saloon

I think I would expect 6 cylinders for that money - they cost the same as an S5 Sportback did 2 years ago but I guess prices have nudged up across the board.

Giulia for me out of these two but I’d take a Civic Type-R over that I think. I know I know.

I much prefer older cars to the new stuff which very much tend to be quite inert.

But the S60 was a poor choice to use :-)

I understand both perspectives, but I'm not sure we need to bang on about the debt free situation, nothing good will ever come from that discussion.

There is a point to be made about the right system actually reducing distraction. Most modern systems are terrible for this, certainly Ford / Vauxhall / Toyota and I dare say that the Jag may fall into this as it has a mid mounted touch screen.

Alfa appears to have a rotary controller that could be used without reaching across and taking eyes off the road. This would mean that you can have the modern conveniences and sensible interactions. This is the way to do it, like the iDrive and the older Audi MMI. Mercedes has a good compromise with the wheel mounted touchpads too.

Going back to the actual driving, someone commented that the steering was good. Is this good as in it feels connected or just good as it is quick and accurate? Our MiTo is accurate and feels quick, but I would not say the steering is good as it has less sense of being connected than a video game. It also makes to more fidgety when driving in a straight line. How is the Guilia?

They couldn't be further apart. The Giulia's steering really is on a different planet. One of the best EPAS systems out there.

These make a very nice alternative to the German offerings for sure. I reckon I'd still go for the current 330i though if I was in the market for one.

I know that 4 cylinder 2 Litre turbo petrol engines get plenty of stick on here but these both have as much torque as my old E92 M3 had from its 4 Litre V8! I do really like an old fashioned N/A engine don't get me wrong, but these smaller turbo engines do work very well as a daily driver I reckon.

It’s not fair or logical to compare the AWD Jaguar to a RWD Alfa.

I drove the Alfa a couple of months ago, except in the AWD version. It too had a lot of understeer.

AWD versions of RWD cars often have excessive understeer, no one ever bothers mentioning it though.

That’s quite a big difference in size. Plus, in reality the Giulia TI can be bought for about 38k and the veloce about 32k. An RS3 saloon is going to be 48k, with no options, so over £50k probably.
A giulia QV can be had with delivery miles for £55k so it’s much nearer to that in price.

But the RS3 is crap. Nice infotainment though it has to be said.

Massive discounts to be had on the Giulia ... The Ti model is admittedly ridiculously expensive for what it is, but you can get a veloce with a few options for under the £40k threshold.

Mine rrp'd at just under £40k and was discounted to £31,500.
I thought they cancelled the Ti on further orders now because of how expensive it is?

I'm bias as I plan on getting one as my next daily, but it's hard to beat the car below compared to the two in the test it has AWD as well as a punchy V6 & it's still a leftfield choice:

Veloce Ti If it had to be a (just look at it especially in this colour) four pot turbo then this would (including the cars below) win it everytime for me.

R Dynamic HSE but only the 250 model
