Shame, starting price is 50k GBP - have suddenly become a lot less interested.
How much were you expecting it to be? Just out of interest?

Also... any know the rules on importing one? Understand it can't be sold here, but could it be imported by a person with such means? Not that I do, mind. hehe

FYI, just in case you don't know, sa isn't a third world country.
Re the Landcruiser, you do know that it'll outlive any product from LR don't you??
The new Defender would be lying in the sand pit with broken engines/gearbox's, suspension problems and electrical gremlins while the Landcruiser disappeared over the horizon.
As if the stigma of owning a LR product wasn't enough..

At the Toyota South Africa link posted earlier, I scrolled through the vehicle specs for this vehicle equipped with diesel V8. Thought it said Euro 4 compliant with OBD. So that's January 2008 in terms of emissions.

They lived for 170 000 000 years, the very definition of robustness.

Quite liked the line they used on Radio 4 today. In terms of time a T-Rex has more in common with an iPad than it does a Stegosaurus.

Would love to know how you can be so sure of that, given the thing isn't even released yet! Who knows what it will be like in 30 years.

There’s an ISIS recruit out there currently wondering why he can’t add a 50mm machine gun on the online configurator tool.

£50k?! You could have a new Defender for £5k less than that. Outrageous. It should clearly be possible to make it for £19,999. It’s got beam axles and a simple ladder chassis and comes with a dead sheep in the footwell.

No shortage of these work horses wandering the highways and byways around here.
Even though they are slightly handicapped by their different width front / rear tracks, mining companies and pastoralists swear by them

EFA wink

PH, pedantry matters....

Loving the all too predictable comments that demonstrate why LR are right to go the way they have with the Defender.

Brilliant! And so true. Who ever sees a LR in the Middle East? (Excluding the ubiquitous pimped-up Range Rovers who consider parking on the pavement to be off-road.) However, I used to drive an original one of these when I worked in Oman - good news; indestructible and they will go anywhere; bad news, unbelievably uncomfortable on the road.

Be interesting to compare this and the new Defender back to back, on road and off.

Pretty sure the LR will be better on road by a pretty huge margin, and given the same tyres, cant imagine its far behind off road, if it even is, but would need an Off Road expert to explain why one would be better than the other.

Suspect the Toyota might be less prone to faults and last better, hopefully they have sorted the reliability issues....

Possible to do, quite expensive due to the tax you'd be paying on top. Would need to pass a basic IVA - https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/... - no idea what changes may be needed for it to pass that.
