golfs are so overpriced these days, this is good value
Presumably you missed the point where I said you could buy a Golf GTi (a better car by every measure other than horsepower) for the same money on Autotrader, and a year older Golf R for the same money again?
Not everyone wants a Golf though plus I bet this handles, stops and goes far better than any STANDARD Golf GTI plus the fuel economy is far better than a Golf R.

Its horses for courses but OMG I get fed up with the French car bashing on here! Not everyone wants a soulless VAG product....
I agree - the French car bashing is tedious at times...

BTW, I had a look on Autotrader. Cheapest similar age and mileage Golf GTI I could find was £2,000 more expensive than the car featured here and was the 220BHP non PPP version.

As for the Golf GTI being better in every measurable way other than BHP, that doesn't stack up either, as the 308GTI is faster, lighter, uses less fuel, has a bigger boot, a standard LSD (not a feature on the basic Golf GTI) and in recent reliability surveys such as JD Power Peugeot has finished much higher than VW...

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of prejudice!

Well said.

They really are great cars, even the Peugeot Dealer I use are a pleasure to deal with. And at these used prices now they are an absolute steal!

I did my work experience at a Pug dealer when these were new to the market, I remember they had a demo in the red and black paint scheme. Looked and felt quality, yet in the time I was there, not a single person came in to see it or drive it. I'll admit, I wouldn't spend my money on it simply because there's far more fun to be had for £13k, but it's a seriously impressive car imo.

And the 308GTI beat the Golf GTI (and Cooper S JCW) in an EVO test a couple of years back.

There is no way I would buy one new, I waited until they had come down in price (I paid £16500) As depreciation is awful less than three years, but 13K and it becomes a different proposition.

But then you're out of the warranty and find out how reliable, or not, the highly tooned 1.6 is ..

Extended warranty is about £290 a year if memory serves me right and that includes Peugeot assist. As I say, it hasn't put a foot wrong. Compare that to other extended warranties I've taken out for performance cars and it's a bargain.

My Punto had 80bhp. This has 270. It probably doesn't.

They are good fun, reasonably economical and go like stink if you want it too.
In all the time i had mine, it only ever needed petrol and tyres.
Brakes are hilarious but if the calipers need replacing they are eye wateringly expensive.

Worth a punt at 13k

I get that the i-cockpit may be an issue for some but personally I don't have a problem with it. Interior quality is actually pretty good but the touchscreen setup is not the best.

Seem to be quite a few in that price range.

That's why I don't see any on the roads then, they are all on the forecourts!

The germans could start world war 3 on us and as long as the tanks has vw/audi/bmw badges on the front the majority of our population now would welcome them with open arms.

Do you think that they just get forgotten about when folks are drawing up a list of potential candidates?

I quite like these on paper. Never been in one, but I bet it goes well enough! I have a Leon with about the same power.

I think that people have lost a fair bit of interest in Peugeot performance cars. They used to be awesome(205GTi/309GTi etc) then they just pushed out a load of dross, but over the last few years they've found their mojo again(this and the 208 GTi Peugeot sport) yet they seem to bypass the performance crowd now sadly.

You don't hear about many engine issues at all. The little RCZ R also has 270bhp.

Values of the 308gti slumped when they were new. They do look a bit more stable now. A second hand buy looks decent value against rivals.
