Mea culpa, I forgot about the Rapide.
But as a riposte I think that’s its whole problem; people forget about the AM, which says a lot really.
I’ve seen a few Rapides in the Matlock area and always think they look expensive and aesthetically pleasing, but also how small they are in the back. And then my mind wanders away to think about clouds, the universe, lava formations...and it’s as if the AM never entered my view or was recognised by my grey matter......
They're also nowhere near as fast as the rampant turbocharged M6/Audi RS... Beautiful though.

A mate had the two door coupe. Fast as f***, but one-dimensional. Sound, shove didn’t really vary with revs. Loud, but in a boorish way, and too fast to enjoy for any length of time in the UK. I’m sure on an Autobahn it’d be epic, but not when a few seconds gets you to close to double the UK limit and self-control is all that holds you back.

Impressive, but not at all thrilling.

Yeah this... I had the M5; most boring car I've ever owned! No feel, no connectivity, entire drive train whilst very fast feels like its in another time zone.

Very capable engine, but no sound to enjoy.

I bought one of these just under a year ago as my daily. What an epic monster it is. I’ve done nearly 10k miles in it so far. The array of driving modes it has it dazzling and allows you to tune its character in all sorts of ways. Took me a good while to master all the bits you can mess with like steering weight, damper settings, throttle maps, gearbox shift speed, traction settings etc. I now have two favourite settings - normal pootling mode and full attack mode. In normal mode, the wife and kids think it’s just like any other practical (albeit very elegant) saloon, but when in max attack more it’s an utter monster on motorways and a roads. The HUD is superb, all the tech works, the Satnav is great, it’s connected online so traffic etc are all bang on. The way it picks up speed is frankly shocking, but get to the corners and for normal roads, it’s actually pretty good in the handling department. The traction systems are well judged and let you play but always have your back. It’s elegant, rapid, pretty economical for something so potent (25-30mpg), reliable, and a thoroughly nice place to be. A bit of a hidden gem. Rarity is also a bonus. As you can tell, it gets a big thumbs up from me.

I doubt the owner paid full list (like any of the 6 range of this era), I say that as a 40D owner. But the reality is exactly that, BMW price list filed under fiction.

In regards to the size of the GC specifically yes you need a large garage if you wish to garage them...I have 15cm's spare for mine when I do put it in there, the length is the biggest problem.

Equally annoying is the size of the average UK parking space is shorter than the GC.

I did 20k miles in my sakhir/silverstone car, great for European trips. It left a couple of inches front and back in the garage, a very long bonnet. Even though it had surround view but missing front camera, I just felt it was too long and not something you would just take for a Sunday morning drive.

I’m in a 2018 m3cp now, much more fun but I do miss the quality of the interior, soft close doors, b&o sound. M8 GC or conv is a future prospect, with the better surround view cameras size shouldn’t be a factor.

Same mate also has an s50 Z3 MCoupe, feels far more special than the M6 did, though obvs no where near as capable. Guess which one he kept

I have a 2017 M6 Coupe which I bought will 11k miles 1 year old for less than half list!

Always find when BMW discontinue an M car before the new one launches prizes drop dramatically for nearly new

I love it but it’s big and space in the back in awful. I would say the extra size of the GC is worth it to get some proper rear seats

Super fast, super comfy, makes a great road trip or daily car. Handles well but too big to hustle down B roads

Will probably upgrade to an M5 in a couple of years

I've always loved these and love the shape/performance. This colour combo is not to my taste(I'd prefer San Merino Blue/light interior). I'd love a go in one and I was a big fan of my 640d Coupe so I'd imagine these to be pretty epic.

I did look at these but went for a 650i GC (also a 4.4 V8 twin turbo) it's only fractional slower, has an extra gear in the box so is smoother in traffic, came individually specced with adjustable dampers and the comfort seats so made more sense to me, also slightly cheaper, slightly more common engine but overall a rarer car (seems there's just 13 650i GC's in the country vs a lot more M6's)

Either way remarkably similar, still makes me smile to look at it, massively comfortable and practical too. Shame the current 6 is what it is.
I always thought this was the clever way to go with this car. You won't pay the M tax when it comes to servicing, suspect the gearbox will be a lot more reliable and does co2 sneak under 225g for road tax? I know the M6 is another level but suspect you can rarely use that level in the UK

The big issue is that the N63 in original form was a bag of st with numerous oil usage, coolant usage and timing chain problems across the US, which is why there was a sticking plaster pack as I would prefer to name it, to get them more acceptable, that being said most cars were bought back by BMW NA.

Even the few UK cars were just as problematic, I know someone who got a 550i with the original N63 within a few weeks drivetrain warnings and it spent more time off the road than on it.

The replacement 2013/14 N63tu has been much better in that respect with far less issues, although the coolant lines in the V can still fail. Obviously there has been some more recent revisions to even this I believe, but does not change the original N63 being a bag of crap.

Now there has been some issues with the S63, but seem to have been much better, although the odd issue of oil usage and coolant lines, but in all seems to have faired far better than the frustrating original N63.

Agreed. There's a couple of coupes and hard tops that I see close to home regularly and they look absolutely fantastic. Especially in dark red.
My colleague's 640d is in Imola Red with oyster leather. It's a cracking looking car inside and out. Looks far more than the £16k ish it's worth. (2013 car with 60k on it).

I did this! Bought the 850 coupe, had it chipped, stuck a schnitzer exhaust on. Sounds pretty good and spins its wheels in third. I use it as a daily, perfect for my motorway commute. Not great in the corners tbh, it just feels like what it is- a big heavy gt- but it's a weapon in a straight line.

I really like this shape 6 series in both coupe and GC form.

These M6’s have some presence and are a lovely place inside but my god they’re vast. I seriously considered a 640d but the size put me off really but they're a bargain for early cars.

Make a good buy really for 30k if thats your sort of thing.

I drove my mates and felt like my E92 M3. Despite the turbo V8 it felt like it needed winding out to get it moving and even when it was it just felt completely soul-less despite the HUD displaying the number of jellybeans which was quite a lot, disgraceful speeds achievable really easily, yet devoid of any soul. The F30 M3 is the same.

All the M cars loss there way along with every other... with the turbo lumps ! This is what happens when emissions testing keep getting stricter .

I know that the M6 is heavy but surely 560bhp and 501ib/ft torque feels a lot livelier than 414bhp and 295ib/ft in the M3? If the M6 is like the E92 M3 then you can count me out...it takes the M3 an age to wake up at low revs! frown

Had one of these last year alongside my e63m6 I still have the e63 there’s just no drama with the latest line up of M cars . Give me a thirsty v10 any day .
Had an E63 M6 before the current M6GC and while I agree the V10 was utterly magnificent the SMG box was just bloody awful as a daily drive.

The only thing the E63 did better was make a good noise, the F06 trumps it in every other way.
