Crazy price, but in its defence it's unlikely to have had any serious work in the army being a 90.
I'll be very glad when these are all out of service personally.
Off topic, but vis a vis your profile picture, I thought they used beautifully shiny Series II land rovers as gun tractors (this was about 30 years ago).I'll be very glad when these are all out of service personally.
Had one last year. Was great if unsophisticated. For £28k no chance the market is getting flooded with them being released through Brightwells either be brave and go to auction or pick one up for the £9-17k they are currently going for. Wait till it’s 25 then flog to the states. I mean have you seen the price of pre wolf ex mod stuff especially Tithonus 110s make a Wolf a decent buy if you can live with sliding windows no radio etc etc
By way of thread resurrection, I’ve just bought a Wolf 110 from Brightwells. I’m a complete bottom feeder who likes fixing things, and it’s a bit of a mess, but it was very, very cheap. Let’s just say that you can’t buy any Defender on eBay for the sort of money I paid for this beast.
Here it is arriving on the back of a low loader:
(i’ve tried rotating the pic, I can’t make it the right way up)
I’m familiar with Defenders, that’s my 4.6V8 waiting to tow the dead Wolf. Being a bottom feeder, it’s definitely “resting”, no chance of starting it.
So what have I got? Well, a very strange mix. The chassis is superficially crusty, but solid, I’ve found nothing apart from surface rust. The bulkhead footwells have holes in them, but the top half is solid. Bodywork is straight, and both front wings have been replaced with new (unpainted) parts. New tailgate as well. Someone has been through it and nicked loads of electrical parts - like the alternator, all of the fuses (WTF?), all of the relays and other weird stuff. Oh yes, someone’s nicked all the lights, and not by unplugging them, they’ve cut them from the loom.
The good news is that despite the Wolf’s fearsome reputation for expensive electricals, if you are cunning, you can get bits cheaply. A “Wolf Alternator” - is £800, even from a specialist. But the alternator is just a 24v Lucas ACR 127 case in RH form. Price from a truck supplier - £80. I’ll need to solder a new plug on the loom - but I can do that for £720. Relays are 24v truck items. £3 each. NAS spec lights are as cheap as chips from Paddocks, and the connectors are Tyco Econoseal, so I’ve ordered a big box and will spend a happy afternoon fixing the lights.
So the plan has two parts:
1) Get the electrics all working. The good news is that there are amazingly descriptive wiring manuals on line.
2) Get the motor going. It does turn with a spanner on the crank and has compression, so I’m hopeful. A full service kit and timing belt kit will be applied.
Once those two are done, I’ll punt it in for an MOT and see what happens. No idea what I’ll do with it, but Allisport have a barn door sized intercooler for it, so grievous engine mods are probably in order. Probably loads of boost combined with methanol injection to keep the exhaust valves from melting.
